Odd Walleye Behavior

Took the night off from studying the other day and headed to the mouth of Trout Run for a little bit of late night walleye action.

I caught two that night. The first was around 1:30 am working a real slow retrieve. At about 3:30 a.m. I threw my lure out and thought that I got it treble hook tangled with my life, so I cranked in as fast as I possibly could. About 30 ft from me, my line got smacked, HARD. Apparently my lure was not tangled after all. I can't figure out why it so hard. Everything I have heard insinuates that slooooooooow action is the ticket. I was fishing quite a way down from the other guy , so I am not sure if the extremely minimal pressure had something to do with it or not. Care to share your thoughts, boys?

I guess a walleye is allowed to hit a lure any way it wants.

On some nights that's the retrieve to use. Been doing it for years, sometimes three quick cranks and pause 5 seconds repeat. ya never know. Hook em and cook em.

I just always thought they chased slower retrieves. No, Flatfish, unfortunately, I do not. It was a spur of the moment thing with a few classmates. Just grabbed the pole and ran out the door. They were legal, but really nothing awesome.
