Its Good To Be King
now i'm going to steal a little thunder with the title
it was thought up by a friend and the fellow angler whom i fished with oct-12 & 13
so here is the story:
friday was a day of firsts on the salmon river
DH had fished once his first time last year for salmon
he was amazed at the size and power of these fish but was not successful in catching one
also being a fly fisherman he could not understand why folks used so much lead on their rigs and asked me "doesn't anyone back cast" ?
i told him "i do"
i coached him and helped him learn the things which would make him successful for his next trip this year and said you will get a fish on your line this year buddy.
now 3 weeks ago we hit the river , everything looked promising with few people but to our dismay very few fish as well. : strike 2
i was getting worried he'd loose faith but he said he was determined
my rule is 1 out of every 10 fish will strike
so we made plans for friday & sat, with much more fish to fish to
i meet up with him and his cuz G-man friday morning at DSR who has never seen the SR before
i said i found this great "new" spot that has little pressure and lots of room for 3 anglers
we rig our fly rods in the dark , traditional fly fishing with low water flies and no additional weight.
we are watching salmon splash and run up through the shoot in darkness , now we are stoked:
as light came i said good to go lets give it a go.
below the pictures will tell the rest of the story:
great day with MANY a bent rods:
Here is G-man's 3rd cast: he was jinxed and did not land a fish but played with many:
Tuna with the first landed (of many)
DH with his first ever salmon on the line:
The Glory of it all while traditional fly fishing:
another one (the guy is now hooked for life)
Yes they really do STRIKE a fly:
Cuz getting lots of action as well: (so close)
Tuna had to make a pose(it really wasn't that ugly)
A solo shot by myself:
they wanted to try a few keepers for the smoker:
so in the end we had a GREAT weekend
i ended up loosing 2 nice steelhead and this small brown which must have been hungry as all get up to be lost twice:
