Can you Wash Waders?

Gentlemen,
When I went to pack my stuff for the migration to Oil Creek I got a NASTY suprise. It seems that somehow a tomcat got into my garage, up to the 2d floor and up 3 feet on a shelf, and used my gear bag as a litter box. The smell is something else. So the bag, my vest, my waders, my wader socks (100% Austrailian merino wool $ $ $) and my gloves and my suspenders are in the washing machine. With about a pint of Oust!
Once again, just when I'm ready to go * * * Shift Happens!

Luckily I do have another pair of waders but they are a little snug. (I've grown!< LOL!)

Jack,  Throw those suckers in the wash.  See if there's an instruction label somewhere as to what type of detergent to use.

Well, If the smell doesn't come out I'll be the one who is always easy to find. By the smell! I can just see somebody who doesn't know me coming down stream and stopping by one of the guys and the statement will be: "Man, I just passed a big fat guy who just fell in and he smells like cat pizz! And he's got a kid with him who can't stop laughing long enough to tell me what happened!" Ah well if ya aint laughing with me you're laughing at me. But at least you're laughing.

Don't worry Jack, it will be just like being in church.  No one heard it, but everyone smelled it, and no one knows who did it.

Yes you can wash them.  It's also a good time to hit them with a little Revivex, too.

    Jack,

You may want to wash your waders with a product called Nikwax Tech Wash. It is recommended for Gore tex and
most other water repellant fabrics. I wash my Patagonia SST jacket with this product. I bought it online.
    Hope this helps you.

Have used some stuff from petsmart, called odor away or something. Its an organic enzyme (sp) of some sort. Actually eats the organism that causes the smell. Works great. Can be put in wash or carpet cleaner .

Eat what you catch, troll for cows.

What type of material are they made of? Cat pizz is strong stuff. You my need to treat them several times. When they get wet again, it can "re-activate" the odor.

What Gizmo said works great. Ifthey don't have it in your local store, try "Skunk-off". Most, if not all pet stores carry it along with most vets.

As for the tomcat. He has not been seen or identified. But if he does come around again and is seen the compressed air cannon stuffed with rags (think potato cannon, or punkin chunker) will thump him well. The rags are soft and expand upon leaving the tube. But they will toss a tomcat about twenty feet. It's more humane. Of course the .45 I use for a ranging device , , ,?
