Black Moshannon Lake?

Any info about this place would be great, thinking about heading there this comming sunday (maybe saturday). Fish/boat site says pickrel, pike, bass, panfish, and the typical other guys. But any info about depth, below the d4m, shore fishing would be greatly appreciated. I also see weedy, shallow and it's long but other then that nothing about it.

Thnx

Blackie has some nice sized fish in it but they are usually not found in the lake proper. You have to wander way back in and fish the holes you find in the weeds. Spring is the best time but watch out for getting hung up (in a boat). DOn't really trust the bottom for wading in the swamp area either. If you want some interesting fishing go way up the feeder streams (in the swamp) and fish the narrow deep holes in the channel. There are bowfin in there. Blackie has just about all differing species of fish in it's waters but they aren't easy to find.

It looks really interesting and like a great fishing hole, i'd even be content with fishing under the outflow in the stream and maybe getting a pike or trout or even bass etc. But thank you for the info, it seems there's a good bit of shore access so i'm hoping to check it out. The gf is warry due to possible water moccisans (sp) and other slithering snakes... Any problems of them there?

I fished below the dam last week it was recently stocked with trout and there are a good number in there. The creek is relatively small after the lake mostly just trout there.

So the lake is tough to fish due to color or is access just that limited?

MAgs if you find a water Moc in Blackie it must have been put there yesterday. Blackie is too cold for W/M. A normal snake would have trouble in/around blackie. The problem is that the lake is very heavily fished. And many of the fishermen are people who keep their catch. So, while there is a lot of access, there aren't a lot of fish. However there is an occasional HAWG that comes out of the Upper end and right below the middle launch.

Mags... you can refer to    www.paherps.com   for info on snakes and other critters you may
find in or near the waters, it actually is a pretty good reference to all the creepy critters in Pa.

Hey Mags, the fishing can be decent at Blackie depending on what you are looking for.  It is loaded with pickerel, sunfish, bluegill, and perch.  Not sure if the lilly pads are up yet, but if so try to get right on the edge of them. If you are shore fishing try the west side of the lake near one of the mooring areas.  The outflow and the stream below is good trout fishing, but you'll catch a lot of chubs too.  Water moccasins are from the southern US and definitely do not reside in PA.  The only thing you gotta worry about is getting eaten by the monster bullfrogs and mosquitos at blackie.
