12 lb Largemouth today

Alright so it wasn't in Erie or Pennsylvania....but it came within 3 ounces of breaking the West Virginia state record on a certified scale and I thought I'd share the pics. 25" long, 19" girth. I caught 2 bass all day. One 19" around 3 lbs, and this old girl. Unloaded on a ton of jumbo perch to salvage the day before I got into this fish on the last downed tree I planned on hitting before calling it a day. I've caught quite a few 5-8 lb bucketmouths in the last few years but I never dreamed of catching a fish like this. I could have stored equipment in her mouth and belly for the choppy ride back. Amazing fish. I'd rather not put all the pics directly on the forum so no one has to scroll through 12-13 pics but here is the public photobucket page with all of them. Had a couple trophy browns on the Yough last week and now this pig...spring is shaping up nicely!

Thanks all and yes it's going on my wall. Never wanted to mount a fish in my life but I can't think of anything more American than a big fat bucketmouth on my office wall at home. Maybe I'll have to put a few big male and female Steelhead to join her but I can't think of any other species of fish I'd actually mount. I'm more of a picture guy. I guess fishing for bass since the first time I ever picked up a rod had something to do with keeping this fish. Mostly it was about getting a certified weight to see if it broke the record.

Deadbolt- He's a South African Mastiff, or Boerboel. Obviously a brindle, and yes he's chomping on a freshly butchered deer carcus. Forgot I had those on there.

    Congrats Joe
    awesome HOG
'specially for a non southern neck of the woods Bass

    My biggest was 25"
I didn't have a scale to weight it, nor a tape to measure girth .
Only had the stripping apron measurement marks  on my belly boat to measure with .

It wasn't as fat in the belly as yours though

I would of bonked it and put her on the wall, but already have a 23" 7.2 pounder on the wall.
So I let the big girl return to the coontail I puled 'er from

    Crongrats again duUd.
that's a trophy in any water and even more so in our northern latitude

    That's an incredible fish.

No disrespect, but it really weighed 12 lbs?

The only reason I ask is that the largest smallmouth I have ever caught was 7.5 lbs and it was 22.5 inches long and 17.5 inches girth. So 2.5 inches more length and 1.5 inches girth adds 4.5 lbs? Ok, I guess it's possible.

    Again, that's an incredible fish. Congratulations ! ! !

ASSUMING(could be wrong) it came from the same private lake youve posted about before, would it still have been a state record? not hatin', just askin'

My good friends brother has a 53" musky on the wall over his fireplace..

It was caught in Howard Eaton Reservoir.. one of the most amazing mounts ever, I wish I had a picture of it to share.

One of those Spotted Gar's would make an awesome mount too! They get pretty darn big 3ft+ easy

gratz again on that bass! Nice fish.

Brad- It was 12 on a certified meat scale at a Shop and Save in WV.

Commander- From what I've read before WV allows records from private water....in either case I didn't really care about getting it officially...I wanted to know the exact weight and see if it broke it or not. I would have applied for it probably but wouldn't have mattered to me if they gave it to me or not.

Funk- Yeah I got a spotted gar years ago that would have looked sweet. Actually thought about mounting a 35 lb Lake Arthur carp before...but I was a few miles from my truck. Wasn't going to make that haul. I'd need a much larger house to mount a lot of fish but If I had unlimited funds yeah I'd probably mount a few big ugly flatheads and some big eyes and such. I've always thought that I'm too young to mount fish that I have a lot of time to top....but I think I'll have a hard time topping this bass.

LOL, well I'm sure that certified meat scale was a heck of alot more accurate than the Zebco "de-liar" I used to weigh that 7.5 lb smallmouth.

    Nice fish Joe Baker

As far as the dog goes, my buddy used to have one similar to that thing....it was called a Canary Island Fighting Dog (Presare Canario), meanest dog I have ever met and he had to have a special class to be an owner of it in the USA. He used to let him chomp on meat like that too, and man it was a show to say the least. Some of those rare breed mastiffs will make something like a Pit Bull look like a Yorkie.

loomis my previous dog, a pit that I rescued, I only saw the mother.  Later found out that the father was a bullmastiff.  Looked very similar to the pres canario...150lbs and solid muscle

The moment of truth. Where all other things unconsciously melt away from our minds the instant a fish takes our fly. We stand there on the water with wide eyes, caught in a battle stance with an idea of confidence and hope

Yeah, that dog just doesn't strike me as a Pres Canario. Too small. I've got a 1 1/2 year old male Boxer that comes above my knees when he's on all 4's.

And ya know, no ones dead in the pic.

    Beautiful dog, whatever he/she is.
