Back to Thompson Bay .... I was enlightened by a good source that Thompson Bay used to be one of the few places THE Blue Pike could spawn prior to thier irradication from Lake Erie . This person's thinking for the destruction of the habitat is from sand filling the bay in over the previous 40-50 years > Any thoughts about this ? I cannot say this information is valid but I just wanted to open the can of worms ... Thanks & Tight lines DC

Interesting Theory DC , I always thought is was just from over fishing them commercially and the fact that their main source of forage was destroyed , which I think I heard was sand worms that lived on the bottom of the lake. Or something to that effect.

I agree with rippinlip. We weren't exactly considerate of them.

Loved Thompson bay>  Spring and fall were best.  Used to fish it from a Belly Boat.  Could walk in on 2 trails just west of Beach 11.  Caught loads of panfish and rock bass.  Used to be a beaver lodge at the west end and I once went 27 fish on 28 casts.  Mostly gills and all released.  Small mouth love the warm water in  Thompson in early spring.  Loved it when you got 2 or 3 sunny days in April with little wind.  Smallies liked the north bank in front ot the cattails. 4 inch Berkley Power worms with no weight worked well.
