Shades Beach Launch

I am looking for info on Shades Beach lauch. Last I heard it is a mess again. Is there any word on if or when it will be open for use this year?

It was a mess before last year's season was over, and it will be again this year. Major design failure....

I never got a close up look at the launch. What's wrong with it?

The main thing wrong with it is  the PFBC got involved with it

Ive used it alot last couple of years since its completion.
Wrong  ;  aside from it being really small inside , the ramps are too shallow, the basin is too shallow, the piers are too high, the stabilizing poles are in the way,all kinds of debris back flows into the marina, too close to the crick which pushes debris in as well,to narrow between each pier. I could go on but that about does it for now.

I still use it for the convenience of it being where it is. It just needs to be redone by real fishermen and/or boaters who know how a marina should actually function.

Is it only being cleaned out...or are the problems Deetz mentioned being addressed?

Local company cleaned it out and finished up on friday, I asked them how far down they took it and they told me there is 4.5 feet of depth.  Good luck later in the season but for now it should be pretty good.

Just stopped in on the way home from work. Looks like its all done(for what its worth). Only one dock is in and it looks the same as it has been for the last two years. "problematic"   Its going to take lots of money and a whole summer to fix things right , but for now I will deal with the problems Ive stated before. To give yall an ideer of the ramps themselves. I have a small 16' aluminum with short trailer and my car. In order for me to float the boat off the trailer all 4 of my car tires need to be in the water. Once the boat is afloat if the winds are blowing in the right direction my boat blows underneath the walk way down to the water and dock. there is no way for me to keep my feet and legs dry to put in at Shades Beach Launch.  Just Sayin'

until late summer when you can wade across the (ahem) "channel" with ankle deep water...

I launch at East Ave or North East, but never again at Shades. It's a shame because it's a great location for all sorts of reasons.

I don't think they've had that second pier in since the first year; it's too close to the riprap. And I also get a chuckle how they move the pedestrian barriers further back each year as the piers erode.

Thanks dusty but my trailer is 40 years old. Im gonna doubt anything will fit its modifications over the years.

I dont see it being changed from the previous 2 years. Still tough to launch and all. But Ill use it cause of its location. Too many imperfections , you will see when you get there.
