Misery to marina lake

What are the thoughts on trying to navigate from Misery back through Long ponds to marina lake with a 16' sea ray with the electric. I can draft about 2' of water. If possible. Had my son in law up Shenango and it was relatively calm and he was doing the "swiv" for about 2 hours after we got home. Bad equalibrium ? Want to hit the bay or even some of the lake out side the chute, but I'm not sure how he will take it. Dramamine any good ? Just curious and thanks for the input ! Tom

    gizmos,
I've heard both good and bad about the dramamine, some folks swear by it, others don't think it works enough... all I can say about that is it's worth a try.
another possible culprit though... how much fluid did he drink while you were out? I know a lot of folks tend to avoid drinking a lot when out on a smalller boat because of the inconvenience of needing 'facilities'... but dehydrating while you are out will amplify any problems with your equilibrium....
I don't tend to get seasick so hopefully someone with first hand knowledge can give you a lot better advice, but I wanted to mention the dehydration as something to watch for... good luck...

All you have to do is go out of Misery around the monument and your in the marina. The lagoons are to shallow to try that.

dramamine may make em sleepy but should be able to power through if the fishin is good. Take one before sleep then another 30min to 1 hour before ya hit the water. If he hits up the pcp a scopalamine patch placed behind the ear is the ticket. Not a bit of nausea and I have horrible problems on Erie without it. I recommend the patch but dramamine should work just fine. Its what works for me so good luck and feel secure that your son wont be chummin the water next time out.

scopalamine is overkill unless you're spending 3 days on the water all day

Gizmo...I tried that route the  other day with Deetz... Weeds were already gettin pretty thick too. I turned around at the beginning of long pond, and headed back to marina. You "prbably" could make it but, With the water level low as it is, it was pretty tough to navigate.

    Good Luck

You might consider it overkill but it works very well and it doesnt make ya drowsy and yes you can wear it for three days. Place it behind the ear and whullah, no yak or loss of equilibrium for me.

Is it getting that shallow in there? Wow. I remember being able to go from the marina to misery with no problem. We were allowed to use a gas engine back then. Same with the Duck Pond, that used to be wide open. Its all but filled in now. "Back in the day" most of the lagoon ponds weer fishable.

Ginger pills, Ginger pills, ginger pills! Have used them on 3 life long sea/air/car sick people and then taken them out in 2-4's and none got sick. Plus they don't get drowsy....available anywhere.

the dramamine should do the trick, but drugs tend to affect everyone differently so it may not.  the scopalamine would work too, but make sure he places the patch ahead of time to allow the drug to begin working.  it wont work immediatley, since it is a patch.  i would recommend he try the seabands before anything else. they are a wrist band that has a point/knob that is placed on the inside of the wrist and on a pressure point.  this pressure point tends to be related to the gag/nausea/balance relfexes, and the band keeps all in check.  worth a try.  i have heard of people having excellent success with these.  as far as lagoons go, as stated before, getting pretty weedy back in there, plus i think there are better places to fish anyways, on the bay.

Several times in the last few years, I've made that trip in a rowboat with electric motor.

If the water level was at "normal" levels, it would at least be passable. With the level 12" to 18" low (IMO)...it's tough.

Thanks for all the replies ! Will more than likely stick in PI and marina. May venture thru the channel if waves cooperate. Looks like 90% that we are makin the trip so will post with results. (good or bad !! ) I've heard the ginger does work well. Fisherlady, I dont think he drank anything but a cup of joe before we left so I will have him do the H2O to keep his levels up. Again, thanks for the replies !

Ginger ale, I keep Schwepp's gingerale on my boat all the time. I start drinking it on the way to the lake and drink it pretty much all day. Have heard the ginger pills work well, have nothing good to say about dramamine. I used to get sick on the ocean, but have had no issues since getting glasses not sure if it's a pressure point thing or a vision thing but as long as it works I'm not askin'...

Don't forget to check the wind speed . I am certain if you fish the head of the bay with a 20+ mph north wind you are not gonna get back to the launch without walking the boat up the shoreline with only an electric trolling motor for power . I would just stay in / around Misery instead of the extrawork in the shallows .. 2 foot draft is pretty deep IMO for fishing lagoons... or you could go out next week with me looking to be out Wed-Fri for Pike / Pans on Presque Isle my 14ft aluminum has a 6" draft ..... Goodluck Giz....
