Snubbers?

Do you guys (and gals) use snubbers with your dipsy divers? I've never had a problem without them, but was just curious how many used them, why and what your experiences with them are. Thanks in advance...

I don't like running them. Only run them sometimes on Lake Ontario. If you keep your drags set so the fish can take line on the strike it is very rarely needed (if at all)on Lake Erie. I'll add that I use 20# braid when pulling dipsies and never have lost one yet. I lose more fish due to lines crossing when the "Jumpy Fish" hit than losing them at the initial strike.

I ran snubbers for a short time when I started running braided line, I ended up loosing more fish with the snubbers than without them, so now I dont use them.

Yes we use them from June on. Nothing worse than a big steelie dragging your dipsy up from 40 ft and jumping out of the water way behind the boat. I also think the snubbers help when you get a big fish next to the boat. The snubber acts like mono when they try to take that last run when they see the boat.

Always use snubbers lost more fish without them then with them. Don't like losing $7 plugs when those D--n steelhead get hooked up. I think some guys lose fish because you see them pumping the rod like they are fighting a sailfish, all they are duing is working that hook out and making the hole bigger just pick the rod up and a nice slow steady reel will do it. The snubbers help when those big eyes make that last ditch run when they see the boat.

No snubbers here either, lose very few when people fight them correctly. The post above about pumping the rod is 100% correct....

Better too far back, than too far forward.

No snubbers here.. Learned how to fish without them, and never saw the need. Tried them... Prefer not using them.

Before braid came around We used to run wire and dipsys lost alot of fish half way in then started snubbing the dipsys lost very few after that. Then switched to braid and just never got away from snubbing them,we use the clear ones from amish outfitters don't know if that makes any difference.

Use them all the time. I think they help take up some of the shock when using the new spectra braids, especially with steelhead and salmon. Just bought myself a 6 pack of Amish Outfitters snubbers for Ontario....heard good things about them. Will also get a couple Dreamweavers...heard mixed reviews concerning the Lur-Jensens.

I also use the Amish Outfitters snubbers. Luhr Jensen's snubbers have failed me twice...the rest that I had are now in a landfill.

Tubular rubber band that goes between the Dipsy diver and the leader. It's nothing more than a little bungee cord. On Erie, they're prefered by some who use braided (no stretch) line for trolling. They can add a little more "give" between you and the fish thus reducing the chance of the fish coming off.

I should add, sometimes seen directly in front of the dipsy diver!

If the releases on all my dipseys worked better I'd use them all the time  (snubbers)but I hate those releases  They are either too loose of too tight.

Two years ago I bought something similar at the outdoor show, but it could be run way up from the lure (way more than a rod length) and had a nice adjustable and sensitive release. However it is a little complicated. Gotta be a better way.

Don't get me wrong I use dipseys all the time. A spoon and a dipsy will catch fish. With or without snubbers.

    How about a magnetic release?

How about a release like a "Pink Lady", only with side tracking, dipsy style.

Does anyone else tinker with this stuff?

Lite Bite makes a diver that is supposed to only trip when a fish is on. Its pretty much all the guys out in the Michigan area use. My buddy bought some last year and so far loves them. I'm loaded with Dipsys and am not going to switch at this point....I crank down the screw fairly tight, to the point that pretty much only a big fish can trip; otherwise we watch our rod tips like hawks to detect bites and check lines ever 10 or 15 minutes anyway. Very few get by us

Heres a review on the Lite Bite Slide Diver http://www.1fghp.com/fishing_guide_articles/slide-diver-lite-bight.html
