pymy walleye

about what time of the spring does the shallow walleye bite happen on pymy? and is it just a nite bite? i have read about you guys wading for them in the spring and just wondered when it happens. do you fish for them from a boat or is it just a wading thing? thanks for any info.

    Papermouth,

I have done well for years from a boat and never tried the wading bit.  The bite starts slow after ice off and gets better as the water temp warms up a little.  An hour before dark and after dark has been the most productive for me.  As far as i can remember the bite starts a little earlier at the north end too.  If you can find 2 3 4 5 FOW there will be wallydawgs.  Hope this helps ya out a little.

Look for rocky bottoms near steep drop offs
lots of places on the south end near Jamestown

I like a green jig tipoped with a medium minnow pulled on the bottom
Little chop to the water adds to the excitment

A little driving around the lake in a week or two should yeild you some great spots
Just look for the crowds of people

They are catching eyes at the Spillway now, but the ice is still on the lake, but it will be time to start wading within a week, if the warm temps hold. I live on the north end of Pymy and will post as soon as I hear of guys getting them wading.

I'm kinda new to Pymy, but when I did go, I launched out of Tuttles Campground when I stayed there and a few times at Lyonsville and mostly at the PA side of the causeway. My question is...I've never been to the south end of the lake, is that where the spillway is?

    I wade.
    I enjoy it.

It can be cold some days and the feet and legs can get cold.
There are a few(very) right now open enough to try.....but really nothing is going real good.

the spillway is about a mile from linesville on the linesville hartstown road , it's where they feed the carp , it's the only spot out there with parking lots on both sides of the road . going from linesville you pull into the lot on the right

    They're bitin' now.

...and papermouth, they can be had just as easy (if not easier) from a boat as wading.
You just have to be veeeewy veeeewy quiet in the boat.
No dropping the anchor on the floor! lol

walleyes are real shallow at sunset.  now is the time.  the fish are much bigger this year, but we are looking at a return to smaller and more plentiful fish within a year or so.
