Open Water at Wilhelm?

Just wondering if there was any open water above the causway yet? I like to hit the cove near launch 3 or above Sheakleyville bridge soon as the ice is gone. I thought with the warm weather it might be starting to open up a little.

open water around shore at lunch today. (ice 5-10' from shore)
ice looked reeeal soft too with drilled holes opened up as big as 18"-2'
won't be long, especially with the rain in the forecast.

Will do clay. I'll try to swing by today & have a look.

*EDIT: just checked it out. at the spot you mean I could still jump out to the ice... it would break, but I'd make it. However, the nearby inlet has a good 50-75 yards of open water & all the ice over there's melting fast.

Don't get too exited yet.  The carpin' can be tough there sometimes, especially in the early Spring.

I havent even touched my poles since Twin. When I start thinking about I start shaking. Just need to hear the line coming off the reel. Is there a better spot early spring?

Any spot where the carp are is a good spot.  Being in the right place at the right time is key.

As far as I can remember, I've only ever caught one carp from Wilhelm in March and it did come from the beach area......a 20 lber.(not a bad way to start off the year, that year).  I've done plenty of blanking in March and April too there, so.........

Catching carp is usually a little easier on the rivers and creeks this time of year.

I don't know about the carp fishing in March (never fished for carp there), but have had some good crappie fishing at Wilhelm in March.

I just checked the dam end & it's, I'm guessing, 75% open. Not navigable by boat yet, launch #1 was still frozen & there are sections of the lake still frozen all the way across. But the majority of the south east end was open water.

...this looked to include your favorite spot clay, but I wasn't on that side of the lake to confirm. The spot pacarper was at during the carpathon was open & it appeared to be open all the way across there. If you're heading up this weekend, let me no, k?

Wilhelm is mostly open. Some ice along the shores.....Except West of the causeway...from Launch 3 to the stumps still has quite a bit of ice in the way
