I'm Giving It Up

After almost 45 years of fly fishing, I need to give it up. I have COPD, a breathing disorder which causes me to lose my breath easily. I started fly fishing with a 3-piece bamboo rod and an automatic fly reel. My modern set up is a Sage, 8.5 graphite rod (in a custom made maple/leather octagonal case) and an Orvis Battenkill reel with extra spool. I also have a few hundred flys (drys, wets, nymphs, streamers, ect.) in boxes. My second set up, for small streams, is a 6.5 foot Fenwick glass rod with a Pfleuger Medalist reel. I am selling everything. Where do most members here sell their stuff? Is eBay a good option? Thanks in advance for any help!

pauleye, sorry to hear about you having to give up fly fishing. i couldn't even imagine hanging it up unless i had to.

like raz said, post your prices and pics, if poss., in the fly fishing tackle and gear sales forum on this sight. there are a lot of guys getting into fly fishing or guys/gals looking for good used gear. sounds like you got some nice equipment. ~dt

what do you want for the Fenwick rod/medalist reel?  Learned to fish with that setup as did all my brothers when we were kids. They all got destroyed, we were kids, haha.

First let me give you some detail. The rod is a Fenwick FF605, 6 foot, 2 oz., AFTMA Fly Line No.5. It is in excellent condition for its age. No loose wrappings or other threads, guides and handle are perfect and so is the reel seat and ferrels. The reel is a Pflueger Medalist, model 1492DA in very good condition. All that is needed is line and a box of flies. I would like to get $125.00 for the outfit, but all honest and reasonable offers would be considered. Thanks!

I really appreciate the offer. I live just north of Pittsburgh, in Springdale, PA. We have great walleye and sauger fishing in the Allegheny River, and once in a while pick up smallmouth, musky, and even gar. If you want to hit the river, let me know.

Sorry about your health issues! But, keep on fishing..it will keep you young!

I'm interested in the Fenwick/Medalist if it is still available, send me an Email at adextest@yahoo.com
The older Fenwick rods (especially the shorter rods) sell for quite a bit on eBay. If it is in mint condition with sock and tube, I would suggest listing it there. If it is just in “good fishing” condition, send me an Email and we can work out a deal. Thanks, Mark
