sucker spawn

im new to fly tying and dont have certain materials , but is ok to tie this with regular yarn ? i know its not as good as egg yarn but its what i have , and what size hook should i have , right now i have a size 14 L144S eagle claw hook .

    14 is perfect . If it is multi strands usually 3 on angora separate them individually . Tie all three above point of hook on shank . Make a loop ( use a smal tool) inside your loop to keep yarn even as you secure it to the shank . On a 14 I usually use 4 loops from back to front about an 1/8th" tall on each good luck .
    1) Strands separated

    2) Keep yarn loops even

    3)After 4 loops secure thread , whip finish complete .

    you can use just about any type of yarn to tie them. try differnt colors and sizes and dont spend all kinds of time try to get one to look like the one you see in the books and mags, mine look like crap and work..

    thats how i did it with the regular thread , its jus reallllllllllly a pain to separate , but thanks get about fifty more done and i should be set for erie and ny next year , with alot less money invested .. ever tried them for stockies , most people say they are a waste but i jus plain enjoy the outdorrs so ill take it all haha

    VERY fresh stockies.

    They work much better on holdovers in the winter, or, tied small, for natives.

    I was catchin trout on 'em yesterday, and I always throw junk the 1st two weeks of trout.

    After you tie tens of thousands of them, you should be able to produce one about every 30 seconds.
