I agree.....six weeks of archery doe wasn't enough?

We have had the big bucks here for as long as i can remember. In my 9 years of hunting someone has killed a buck 140+ every year within a mile of my primary hunting area.  Most of the areas I hunt I would guess to have around 3-1 doe to buck.  Last year on the 400 acres I hunt I personally saw 12 shooter bucks throughout the season along with a few scrappers.  The overpopulation you speak of is literally in the city.  The majority of the hunting is NOT in the city.  They need to find a program to better eliminate urban deer.  Right now a few places allow certified archers to come in the city areas.  The game commission is trying to use a solve all program to entice more hunters in 2-B to eliminate as many doe as possible.  This may be necessary for a small portion of 2-B however the majority of it has a decent doe-buck ratio and some great bucks.  This is especially true for northern allegheny and southern butler county.  Also the massive amounts of oaks, multiflora, and corn/soy fields available are able to support a higher density of deer while still producing some giants.

I agree with Chris , I grew up in 2-b economy boro to be exact and it's always held big bucks and good buck to doe ratios . This is due to landowners communicating and not posting the whole ****ed woods . I hunt on the neighbors land he hunts on my families . The problem is going to be always where access is limited . Thats where I'll be right on the property boundaries with the housing developements . I shoot 90% of my deer there ( already downed a button buck ) yesterday . Saw a 120 class 10PT as well . Looks like the EHD killed 15 deer next to my stompping grounds so I will let the girls walk this year . Micro management is all of our responsibility . We reap what we sow . Can't blame the bureuocrats who always seem to need an( let history teach us the lessons of greed & politics ) insurance companies kick back that they slaughtered the deer ; we're the one's with the choice whack or walk. I no longer hunt up north doe ratio  ; just play cards & sip on some cold ones.  

I was wondering if that was what you meant??  I agree.  My stands have been up since early September and I won't set foot into my spots till bucks are legal. 
 
The first few days are great for whacking a buck before they go into hiding in the middle of October till the rut.

Never said you need to be certified to hunt in/around Pittsburgh.  I said a FEW municipalities have introduced certified archers in very urban areas to keep the population in check.

Crappie, you are right that is what I said...not what I meant...sorry.
 
Carpin, that definatly is a valid point about having people all over the woods 2 weeks before buck comes in, good chance you may not see the bucks first week as in years past.

What's the difference if you are doe hunting or not?
 50-75% of the local archers are still out walking around,sitting in their stands,checking cameras and doing last minute scouting anyway. Lets face it most archers don't screw up their own set-ups someone else does it for them.

Where I hunt in northern 2B it won't be a problem.  ATVs, horses, people in yards, farm work, others scouting and bumbling through the woods; it all goes on all year long anyhow.  Just too darn hot for me to want to go out there and try and kill a doe right now.  The does can still use some thinning in northern 2B where I am but I have definitely seen an improvement in the bucks.  A lot more 2.5 yr olds out there now.
