Yea right, it's a dead sea. At the same time that you were sitting on shore catching your three, the wife and I went through a 1/2 pound of minnows with non stop action. Sorry no details on location but I will say that I could see you from where we were. Oh and another thing, get a boat.
One of the things I like best about CC is the lack of shoreline access, not that I am putting down the bank fisherman mind you, but I have to believe that the lack of access is one of the main reasons for the lake being so productive.

Trying to convince the wife that we NEED a boat. Not having a lot of luck with that however.  Yea, that area across the lake looks like an amazing place to fish with that sharp dropoff. Maybe someday.

Can anyone give me directions to this lake?  Say, maybe from the New Stanton / Mount Pleasant area?  and Directions to a boat launch?

Thanks Much!

Woods, take rt. 66 north, lake is approx. 8 miles south of kittanning. approx. 1&1/4 hrs. from new stanton. park sign on right of 66.  signs in the park to the boat ramp, only 1,  can't miss.  Goodmans bait store just before you turn off of 66.  sam

Hey guys, been reading these boards for a while but just now finally registered. ive fished crooked creek a few times this spring only a few crappie though. can anyone give me some tips on jigging for crappie? ive only picked them up trolling so far this year. and nothing but gills and bass on fatheads. its really starting to get frustrating. i killed the crappie on fatheads last year and now... nuthin. apparently jiggins the way to go but whats the technique? real slow and twitchy like for a largemouth? vertical? and how deep are they now are they still a ways from shore or are they real shallow, 8-12ft right off shore like last year. PLEASE HELP IM SICK OF BLUE GILL!!!(**** tasty though)

Fishingguy,I would not expect to catch as many crappie as easily as it was last year.I have been fishing C.C. for a few years now and personaly feel that last year was the best in a while. I guess because of a strong year class of fish.aiso since there were so many big ones I think that they were mostly the same age & near the end of thier life cycle. If the following year classes weren't as strong there won't be as many, but there are still a lot of crappie though you may have to work harder for them. A lot of people on here don't want to do that. you have to find them & keep trying something different til you find what they want.I normaly either use a jig & bobber,or count down & swim the jig. very seldom use minnows on jigs. this year was tough because of the high water, but I usualy start in march & catch crappie til dec.,mostly from shore, sometimes in a boat.     sam

No...I'll be taking my boat.  I haven't shore fished for quite some time now.  I been trying new lakes as much as possible.  There are quite a few I want to try this year.

We fished it this past Sunday. Schools of bass still spawning. Caught a few fish, plus a few MONSTER carpsters cruising around the spillway. Fish were really active along the walls.

fished from 930 to 330 at crooked creek lake on sunday, landed 12 keepers in deeper water trolling crank baits... i know, weird isnt it. i was trolling to locate fish then doubling back to use minnows/jigs but when i doubled back couldnt get ne bites. so i kept trolling, just wasted time really when i stopped, landed 2 keepers near structure near a big log with minnows but much more success trolling out farther from shore.

fishingguy, did you get any female crappie? if so, were they still carrying eggs? I think that they spawned in deeper water this year & that is why the shore fishing is so poor for me. I hope that is not the case.   sam

I know if pretty well. Only fished from shore; but I know where all the boats go.  Havent done great this year and not sure if spawn is over of not. Only have caught around 7 crappie in 3 trips up there and none of any size this year.

Last year I was catching them by the buckets and throwing 12 inchers back in.
