Heads up on the Yough: Smithton Bridge
I started a float from Whitsett this morning. The Smithton Bridge has a rock wall along the left side so the equipment can get in to fix the bridge next week. This has funneled all the water to a chute on the right, which is really sketchy. Whitewater, big boils, etc. I made it through upright, but totally soaked because I submerged a few times. Needless to say I cut the float short at Smithton. I hadn't caught anything to that point and was soaked. The outfitters happened to be at bare****beach launching some canoes, so I pulled in and called it a day. Not worth another very cold, wet 7 miles if the bite is totally off.
Heads up if you are floating there, it's only gonna get worse if the river rises.
