when we were dating, my wife bought me a entry level orvis 6wt outfit with all the accoutrements.  we wed shortly after.  the first time i went to use it, she said "where do you think you're going with that"..........just kidding of course.  i have to say that she absolutely enjoys a day or evening drowning worms.  again, equal time will get you out of the house with a clear conscience

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.  Being a militant bachelor, I can't really understand why yunz guys let your better(?) halves tell you what to do.  If it's not an equal partnership, why bother?  If your wives wanted a slave/Dancing With The Stars co-watcher/interior decorator buddy then they should have marked it down on the application.  Motivational video for yunz guys:

RE: wives or steelhead 2009/10/01 13:07:53 (permalink)
My most expensive fishing trip was last year. I went to the tribs for 1 day of fishing and couldn't keep em off my line, blistering cold, hardly a soul out. I called the wifey and she asked how the fishing was going? I told her so good that I was going to spend the next 3 days up there. She told me that was fine, to have a good time and to bring some fish home for the freezer. I've always thought that I must have one of the most wonderful wives, that never says a word when I come home with more and more lures, rods, reels, new boat, new truck to pull the new boat, etc etc etc.

Well on the second of three days fishing, my 15 yr old son text me " Dad glad your havin fun fishin, but, uhm, did you forget it's moms b-day today?"

OH S**T!!!

I'm so glad for the Mill Creek Mall. Went into the first jewery store, luckily they had exactly the multi-diamond ring the wife has been wanting for a couple years, gave them some plastic and did 100mph down 79 to surprise the wife with a cooler full of fish.

I told her, "Hey, while I'm getting cleaned up to take you out to dinner, could you get the filets outta the cooler and seperate em into freezer bags and put em away?" I'd put the ring box in a baggy and put it in between a couple of the filets. LOL

I'd never gotten that passionate of a kiss after coming home from a fishing trip!

The next day my son tells me "Dad, that was smooth last night, your good, I wonder what mom would say if I told her that I had to remind you it was her b-day. You know, my 16th b-day is next month, should I pick out my car now?"

And NO, I didn't buy a diamond ring AND a new car because of 1 fishing trip, but I did get to see the woman I love, smillin like the butchers dog, and I hadn't seen her smile like that since the last 2 times I slipped a diamond ring on her finger(engagement & wedding).

Needless to say, I never heard a peep the rest of the steelhead season when I was loading up the truck heading up for some more of my, second, most favorite kind of action!

Diamonds are not only a girls best friend, but also a mans best friend!!!

...And in comparing his wife to a canine, poor SR lost the vast sum of "points" he'd gained with the ring...and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth...

when my wife and I decided to get married 22yrs ago she picked april 16th I think and I said no that wont work. Thats opening day of trout. So we got married on the 25th. She knew what she was getting into from the get go. Set the rules early, and there is no problem.

My wife says I'm obsesed and my fishing "problem" is consuming me just because I've bin fly fishin, fly tyin' and planning steelhead trips since march 15th. I could be drinkin, smokin or worse. All I have is alot of tyeing material and a sore shoulder! Anyone see the problem?

dont hear drums and cant smell

in the box, for if it is evil you seek,
then it can only be conjured with the

Can't believe nobody chimed in with this piece of advice yet.

Set the alarm for some ungodly (to her at least) hour, like 3:30 or 4 AM. Let it go off long enough for it to wake her. Then say, "Sex or fishing?"

Early in my marriage, my wife used to say to me " I'm third on your list. You love golf and fishing more than you love me"
One day I assured her that her statement was not true. (She had forgotten that I gave up on golf).

What's a wife? I vaguely remember having something like that 19 years ago. People still ask me when I'm getting married again. I tell them "I'll get married as soon as my hunchback brother straightens out."
