Headed up Oct 8 & 9

A Buddy and I are headed up to Puluski late on Oct 7 and will fish all day Thursday 8th  and most of Friday 9th,.

It's been 19 years since my last trip up there.

I still have Poles, waders w/corkers, big net and a DSR ticket from Sept 25, 1990 in the basement.

Should I swap out my 20yr old 20lb test for some new stuff?

Any tips or sites to check out would be appreciated???

Thanks

I'll assume you're going to fish for them and not snag/lift them so here is what you do.Get rid of the old line it probably is dryrotted and it is too heavy anyway.Get a quality 12-14# line as main line, tie on a barrel swivel, then about 3-4ft of 8# floracarbon tippet(Pline is good),fly/hook/bait at end.Only use enough weight to get it ticking the bottom on the drift, put a dropper of 8# mono off the swivel(4") and attach weight to that.If the weight gets snagged you should be able to pull it off without losing everything.I hope you have a rod about 8-10 long and more importantly a reel with a smooth drag.

pa, i was impressed with them piker floats in the fast water. I battled several steelies under the rt81 bridge last year and landed a couple to release and fight another day. What is the limit up there for this season? I hope to get up there after the salmon crowds

sal used line perehaps but i heard as long as mono line is stored in at room temp and no long term sunlight exposure , mono will store okay, not sure though decade old lines, my experience with old spools I stored away years in thier original spool box in my garage seem as good as new. IF ysed though chances are usage abrasion the water and UV break any mono down.

backin79,I think the limit is one Steelhead a day,I'm not really sure 'cause I don't keep anything so it does n't concern me.

One a day in the tribs., 3 a day in the Lake.
Otherwise 3 fish a day, which can be a combo of Trout & Salmon.Only one of the three may be a steelhead.

And everyone learn the difference between fresh Coho's & Steel if you don't know.
Steel have an all white mouth. Salmon have black mouths.
