On the river as a whole it is no more than 4 feet between weight and hook.
I believe the DSR still enforces the 2 foot minimum on their property. So there no less than 2 and no more than 4 feet.

15' total maximum length of leader. Maximum distance from hook to any additional weight is 4'.

If your fly fishing it's obvious what a 15' or less leader would be. If your running straight mono or spin fishing it's a bit more vague.

DSR does not enforce the 2' foot rule anymore(at least it's not posted anywhere), but they do require a terminal tackle set up on your leader.

What that means is either a swivel or knot must be on your leader within the 4' range to your hook. This is to prevent straingt leader or mono to the hook and not being able to get a clean break if your hung-up or you've foul hooked a fish and have to break off. This is to prevent massive balls of mono in the River.

This rule again is a bit vague and is difficult to enforce.

    Tight lines,

I was fishing up there this weekend and i was using a 2-3' leader and had some hookups while the guy next to me and was hooking up left and right so i switched to a longer leader and started to hook up more.

a longer leader will give you a more natural presentation, and it will suspend you off the bottom a little more which sometimes (most of the time) fairs well for moving fish...
