flies.....what do you think?

Tied up a few flies for Salmon.  My fear is that the colors may be too bright and that maybe I shouldn't have made 8 wraps of lead around the hook for weight.  Any opinions out there?  I used #4 hooks

You can NEVER be too bright on the SR. I have always found the brighter the better, especially hot reds for Hos.

    John,

As Matty said, bright is good, especially early on for Coho's and on the lower end of the River. But you never know, I've had Kings slam my pink and black salmon flies in the UFZ fishing for Atlantic's.

Tie some up without the lead eye's and weight, use a bead or just wraps with a #8 hook.  You'll have more success. All the lead and weight will have them dragging near the bottom. You want your fly suspended in the water column and moving as natural as possible.

By the way I was having constant action with the HO's on the LFZ on a size 8 streamer that looks like a royal coachman last week.No weight in the fly,one small shot 3 ft above it,they were smashing it!
I agree with Salt, take the weight out of the fly,it hinders the natural drift.

I've always heard 'dark for dark days, bright for bright'...seems too specific to me, but what do i know. You can hookup with your car keys some days.
