Spoons?

I've done alot of steelheading in the tribs but not much in the lake. I wanna try casting some spoons at the mouths in a few weeks and was wondering what are some of you guys' favorite spoons/lures for casting at the mouths of the tribs?

I see alot of people using little cleo's and kastmasters in silver/blue.  I used a perch colored one before and had sucess as well, but the silver/blue colors are the most popular color, from what I have seen.

Luhr Jensen's Krocodile spoons 1/4 ounce, blue and silver when the water is clear and copper with orange when it stained. They cast great and don't sink like a stone, less hangups....

I like Cleos, but any spoon will work, just don't go too heavy or you'll need  a very high gear ratio reel or crank like mad.
I saw a guy just nailing them one day on a red eye by Epinger.
I've thrown Dardevils, cleos, crocs, blue fox pixies etc.. and a few homemade spoons(my Fav) at them with sucess. But the lake is hard to wade if there is N or NW wind, the waves pound you and you have to jump over them to stay dry. I like a S or SW wind for wading the lake. One nice thing about fishing the lake is it just gives you another option when the tribs are blown out.

To make a homemade spoon: Cut the stem off with a saw or rotarty tool & discard.Drill a small hole at each end of the spoon and attatch split rings. Add a treble or big single hook and you're in business. I like to add a little colored reflective tape as well. You'll need good drill bits, stainless is hard as Hell to cut and drill. Old silver spoons works well and are softer, I've picked some up a yard sales for a dime. Clean them up with a little polish and they shine real well.

I've had some luck on Daredevil spoons.  Red and white.

1/8 oz Cleos remain my favorite for shore line fishing.   Blue/silver as mentioned & Green/silver are typically the best for clear water and Orange/copper for off color water.   Clear water tends to be the norm of course or else waves are most likely pounding you with the off color water.  Krocodilies and kastmasters sometimes yield better results, but the Cleo wins most days.   I do go to heavier weights up to 2/5 oz when able to wade further offshore.   A yellow/green and firetiger Cleo seems to yield more action when fishing a bit deeper.  And yes, glow in the dark is quite good before dawn and as daylight begins.  Stay out of the water during this time as the fish are very close to shore.

Try one of these......it's called a Gibbs KoHo and comes in various sizes........I've tried it in the 3/4" oz size in the Chartreuse (shown here) and have painted some black dots on some of them also.   Great lure when visibility is limited.    Also recommend you ditch the treble hook and replace it with a single sickle hook, size 2, 1 or 1/0.   Fewer snags, lost lures, more humane to fish.
