My first 66 inch catch!!!

Its not much for girth, but you can't beat the length.  I guess this is why its important to use high test line.

oh, and here are a couple of actual fish I caught.  as you can see, both on dark colored jigs

The rod was not super nice. It was a gander mountain guide series combo.  It is as good as anything I use and after an hour of cleaning, the reel works just fine, even if it was under water for a year or two and shows some wear and tear.

That is the lightest weight rod I have now, so I will probably be using that for trout now.

Those ol smallies are gettin big rip holes behind their lips from being caught so much. We may have to let the weeds grow up for a time in the launch areas.

those fish weren't from a launching area.  I walked a couple hundred yards up from the nearest access point to hook them.

my next plan is to hook a few on a float to blairsville once I get my firewood cut and put away in september.

I mean to quit going for a while in general. Next time you go back all the grass will be grown into high weeds. How about the boat loads of fishermen that day. Bo and I had to lag back somewhat.

yeah, that was a crazy amount of boats that day.

The fishing will be done in about 6 weeks, so what's the point of letting up now?  I throw everything back, so they can rest all winter. :)

the combo I caught is a $40 gander mountain combo.   that's worth more than any fish I have pulled outta there so far, so I will take it.

hah, 2 and half years is a bit young yet for steelies, but when he is 4....look out.

I only steelhead fish during the week when I have to do an overnight for work.  There is no real reason that I couldn't fish the river later than september, I just never took the time from bowhunting to do it.  I assumed the fish would be turned off by then.  This year is my year to do a foliage float in late october.  The scenery should be second to none.

that is good to know moooo.  I was hoping it would work ok.  If it doesn't, I will have to use my expensive baitcaster that doesn't get used for anything else. haha.

All the fishing rods I catch are beat to hell and the reels rusty. I'd love to hook a rod that had only been in the water for a year.

I spent a couple hours cleaning the rod/reel up and then took the reel totally apart and lubed it good with WD40.  It seems to work fine, but I haven't spooled it up yet with any line, so that will be the real test.

I know for sure there is a 84"er lurking in 20' of water just below the sunken barges below Dashshields ! One of the kids I had out had it in the boat, but it fell to it's freedom ! Go get it boys !!! (nice reel too. both only 3 days old, they grow really quick !!)

    nice

An angler is a man who spends rainy days sitting around on the muddy banks of rivers doing nothing because his wife won't let him do it at home.
