Make them bank fish and use 4x or larger tippets. that will sure discourage many of the "competitors." I'm really surpised that the PFBC even approved the tournament for spawning season on crucial wild brown trout spawning grounds. C'mon guys.....isn't there the whole other ten months of the year for stuff like this? (In my defense, and before someone says it.....the steelhead don't rely on natural reproduction, so don't even make a comparison, please.)

Sounds smart to me, stop the guys from fishing to spawning fish by stomping around the creek spooking the fish they are trying to catch. That should work well.

With hints of Fall all ready hitting nearby streams there are just a few events left to qualify for the 2009 Fly Fishing Team USA Nationals, October in State College PA. In addition to the 2 regional opportunities below there is also the Canada Nationals left on the horizon… not a qualifying event, but a point gainer in the new system. From Anthony Naranja, Team Captain/Coach: Anyone else find it funny/odd/stupid that there is a flyfishing team "coach"? WTF does he "coach"?

Dave, Thats probably why they are having the contest then. No competition from actual fishermen. Plus Spawning Browns, esp males, will be feeding like mad then, mostly on eggs.

Some kind of protest is definitely in order, whatever your flavor. What a bunch of commercialized, new age bull ship! This is what they are trying to do to our sport...(maybe sport is a poor word choice, because referring to fishing and hunting as sports has no doubt contributed to the commercialization and infaltration of the chest thumping, extreme competitive types that keep score and blast it all over the net like they just won a playoff game by landing 89 fish in 2 hours, yeahh, duuuude!).. .corrupt and exploit something pure and wholesome, turn it into the best new Xgame....bunch of "pros" decked out in all their clown costumed, corporate sponsor glory, haphazardly wrecking the best brown trout spawning redds in the region....to earn enough "points" to "qualify" for some F#%$#@ up version of a tournament. What's the first place win? Hopefully a giant trophy resembling a steaming pile of dog crap. The more I read about this, the angrier I get. It needs to be stopped! Makes as much sense to me as holding doe season in mid may and counting coup on all the nursing mothers we find. Triple points for bagging a fawn with a milk mustache. These guys are so far out of touch with where they should be as far as respect for the resource...I think they need a wake up call. Big time.

PFBC permits: I was once given a permit to review for a trout rodeo-- The rodeo was to be held on a PRIVATE pond that was not open to the PUBLIC to fish, other than said weekend of rodeo--- The pond was just for decoration and the majority of it was 2 feet deep--- The permit requested the use of Co-OP nursery trout--- I said absolutely not and denied the permit---- the permit was then reviewed by the Regional Manager who said it was OK to have the rodeo and use PFBC co-op nursery trout --- Whatever??? co-op trout are to be stocked in streams, ponds and lakes open to the public--not for private rodeos--- whatever??? Did they have the rodeo??? I'm not sure--the club sponsoring the rodeo asked if I'd be upset if they did the rodeo---they understood they were given permission to have the event as planned, but didn't want to upset the local WCO--- not sure what happened....and honestly--I didn't care
