Mercury 90 2stroke help

Looking for a little help with my motor.  Went out for walleye today 08/13/09.  When heading out to our spot, my Mercury 2 stroke 90 lost horsepower once and then it ran fine.  Fished all day with my kicker with no problems.  When heading back to the nut, my 90 lost horsepower again.  I could not get it over 2900 rpm or 8 mph for the trip back, until I put my dad up front, which allowed my lund to get on plane.  I could then get about 3400 rpm at about 20mph.  Out of gear, I am able to get higher rpms but once in gear, blah.  I will be starting with my spark plugs tomorrow to see if I was running on 2 cylinders instead of 3.????

I would appreciate any help.

Once again it sounds like the gas mix.  Check for a vacuum leak, and of course check the plugs.  They could have been fouled by bad gas or water in the gas.

I had the same problem with my 2005 110hp Optimax.  After much troubleshooting, it ended up being a bad coil...the caps that protect the contacts from moisture/corrosion weren't properly seated.

Whatever you do. Do NOT take it to the bums 15th and Penninsula Dr. to be fixed. Seriously!

Had a similar problem with a Merc two stroke once, ended up being carbon/oil residue clogged exhaust. Of course that was after lots of money replacing electronics and rebuilding carbs.

When you were running did it sound like it was running normaly, but just no power?  Yes simple things first, but also check the compression.  If you're changing the plugs it is best to throw a tester on each cylinder while thy're out.  I doubt it's the plugs.  Getting it on plane and running that long should have blown it out, unless it's not firing.  What year is it?

Sounds like a fuel or fuel delivery problem. Could have a shorted plug wire or fouled plug....Definetely a fuel/spark problem....When was the last time you changed plugs and wires? When was the last time you put some fuel additive like seafoam in it???

The folks at Findley Lake seem good. They fixed in one day, what Chet couldn't, in 7 weeks.

Thanks for the help all.  I decided to just take it to Andover Oh, where I bought it so they could give it a good check up.
