If you want the best fighting fish...Go to lake ontario and get a charter for King Salmon...Thrillseeker is the best one there by far....If you want the absolute best fight...Hit up Preminition Charters out of Lake St Claire for some Huge Muskies....That will be the best fighting fish you can find...If you are looking to walleye fish, walleye and fighting fish shouldn't be used in the same sentence...

You want a good fight?  Throw a hundred bucks to a guy with a boat in pittsburgh and have them put you on some flathead catfish.  There isn't a steelhead in Erie that can compete with a 20-30 pound flathead.

my point, is maybe you should be going to pittsburgh if you want the best fighting fish possible in a day's fishing...

If you are determined to go to erie, then get on a steelhead charter, one that focuses on the east side of erie where the water is a bit deeper.  Steelies come in from the mountain and from the canadian waters and work their way to 20 mile creek and you won't have to deal with as many walleye and perch fishermen on that side either.    Steelie Wheelie is probably the guy you need to talk to.  haha, ask him if there is a fishusa forum discount...

I would get ahold of BIGFATHEAD or IRONHEAD to see if you can book a combo trip with one of them...Go troll the trenches for some steelies and on the way in Stop and do some lip jerkin for some perch...That would be a fun day on the lake, believe me....

Nice replies fellas...no Pennsylvania charter captains need any business, why don't you send it all to new york??

Anyhow Campbell, go to the charter page on fisherie and I can personally vouch for any of the boats that leave the main dock in Erie.  All the boats there a professional, safe and will put you on the fish.

    Buckets
    Bomber
    Aquamist
    Lucky Penny
    Windjammer
    Wolfman
etc...are all good charters...steelie fishing during the first week in september can be INSANE!

One more on State Street, Hawg Wild Charters

I would suggest a day with walleye and steelhead fishing. Check out the websites and call a couple captains. Those days are available on my boat right now.

P.S: It is illegl to throw someone $100.00 or whatever to go fishing in Pittsburgh UNLESS they are a USCG licensed captain and licensed guide in PA \.

Not really, splitting costs is not illegal as long as it is not a "condition" for going out.

"Any boater considering carriage of passengers for hire or starting their own charter business in the United States will need an appropriate license from the Coast Guard. These licenses are required for operations on what are considered navigable waters of the United States. The coast and most larger rivers and lakes are classified as navigable. Skippers are allowed to split the cost of fuel and related expenses with your friends, but once you start receiving formal payments for your services as a Captain, a license is needed. Many states now require fishing charter operators to hold a Coast Guard license.

Just make sure everyone is a "friend", new or old and you should be fine.  Also, excessive payments wouldn't fly I am sure but if you are only covering the expenses of the trip....

If you set a price before you go fishing you would need to be licensed is what I was saying. It is a fine line.
