Spinning Reels for Noodle Rods
Got a customer that just bought a rod off me and is looking for a NICE spin to go with his noodle rod, too...no, not one that is 30-40 dollars.
Since I don't do much spin fishing I need to get an idea of some good reels out there for a 9 foot noodle, and not just the most expensive ones, to recommend.

Anything from Shimano. Pick a price to suit your budget, there's nice features added at every level. I own two Saharas (750 & 2500) and love both.

On the type of reel I'm with cold on shimano but there are a lot of good brands out there. More important than the brand is the size in my opinion. I bought a shimano 4000 series in order to balance the noodle rod out better so the outfit felt lighter to hold all day. I still ended up glueing a piece of a 3 ounce bottom bouncer in the butt to get it balanced. The noodle rod i have is not a top of the line model and on a better rod you may not need that much weight but it should balance just slightly forward of the grip when rigged up.

I'll have to check again, but don't remember seeing any extra spacers. Thought of that too because some of my other reels from shimano and okuma come with extra spacers as you said to taper the line from the rear or front or to have an even taper. Thanks for the response though.

i use a quantum energy. love it , but alittle pricey. okuma got some great lower end reels that you cant beat

Im a big fan of Shimano stradics have two (2500,5000) of the older ones that where replaced by the stradic fi also got the newer stradic fi its a (2500) the 2500 are a good size for steel imo. if you are looking for something lower priced Okuma makes some nice reels have a stratus gt i got for 30 bucks and its great for the price.

I've been a fan of shimano for a long time. But I think Pflueger makes a better low-to-mid end models. I have a Pflueger Maxx.. $45... better reel than any $60 shimano I've had.
My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

you would be suprised my dad bought a shimno for 50 dollers he used it for carp fishing and we stoped carp fishing about 6 or 7 years ago and it layed there for a bout 7 years he told me once he found out about stell head fishing in like 2000 ever scince he has been using that reel i would say the reel is abou 14 years old and works great landed thousand of steels on the reel

Mountain man - Which model Pflueger President do you use? I like Pflueger reels also and I am going to buy a noodle rod here in a week or two and need to match it up to a reel. I'm looking at a 8'6".
I got a bunch of French military rifles for sale...NEVER fired and only dropped once.

I have 4 of the presidents. I fish around 250 days out of the year. All 4 are as good as brand new and they are the best reels I've ever bought. Shimano is my second favorite brand though. They are dependable as well. Honestly though, if you actually take care of your gear by not getting sand/dirt in them and actually greasing them like you are supposed to, even the cheap reels will last a long time. Just my opinion.

last year i bought a shimano after having pfluger reels for a long time and now i have four shimano's. The drag on the is so smooth it unbelievable. Perfect for steelhead i wouldn't use any other reel.
