PENN PEER REEL NO.209

Hello
I picked up the afore mentioned reel Its in outstanding condition and I plan on setting it up to troll for walleye in lake erie. I am looking for help with what line to use. mono or braided or what ever else there is? What pound test to put on it? What others think about the orange and yellow lines. I dont want to go low visable. I know some of the older reels cant take some of the new fire lines justlooking for help thanks
George

Fill it 70% with cheap mono then put braid on top of the mono...saves you a ton of money.  I personally would use 30 or 40lb power pro for trolling walleyes, although i don't use mine for walleye trolling.. Line dia would be comparable to 10 to 12lb mono.  They make high vis colors you just have to look around for it.  I personally have 2 older 209 penns made in the USA and 2 newer ones with line counters that i use for trolling for musky.  They take a beating and hold up to the 80lb power pro very well.  For the money they are more than worth the investment.

I have a few of these reels have been working flawlessly on my boat for 20 years now. We use them as downrigger rods because they dont have linecounters. For riggers 12-17lb test works fine. If you plan on using them for dipseys then braid is the way to go.
