So What Makes This The BEST Site On The Net ?

Well ?

to me a good forum is only as good as the people who post. I know some are not the real outspoken or flashy type but without posts & discussion it would just be an empty page right ?

backin79: a Jersey boy (as yank said) who knows his way around some good fishin holes in NY. sometimes I read his posts and think there were some ludes involved (sorry 79, your typing is something special) but who cares about correct literature anyway... It makes me laugh and to me it's all about fun.

bassinbrian: this dude came to town with some serious attitude. Fish, BIG fish.. No doubt he is a great fisherman who knows his bass. I love seeing pictures of his monster bass. Brian gets it done and keeps us on our toes.. GREAT Job !!!

neversinkjimmy: where the heck did this guy come from ? some young kaki wearing hippie who has been all around the world, well USA... His whit and knowledge of any type fishing always makes a good read. Also a **** fine peacemaker for sure. Jimmy is as seen, the king of the forum , when Jimmy speaks people listen (lol) or at least hit is post the most (LOL)

Perch Inc: a man of few words & posts but he likes his pannies & knows what good eats are. Top shelf gourmet cook.. I'm always looking for more of his experience and fishin stories to be told... hint ...

NewYorkYank: wow talk about soft spoken, B-man is as cool as a cucumber. Great guy to hang with and will tough it out on the water whatever the conditions (or leaky waders) .

Hooklinesinker: You shift workers , it must be a viral thing.. I did swing shift for 8 years, it sucks...You have a sweet ride there and I can't believe you don't have the time to fish & type as much as you wish. I wouldn't sleep for a week when I did midnights... Get out there Bro, life is short !!!!!!

Ah Our Gracious Moderator:
REELFORCE: Who could forget Reelforce, you started all this great diabolical craziness. you have had some great posts and keep giving us gut splitting laughs. Dude, keep it keepin on. More reelforce !!!!

all our new & past but not forgotten members : (santa)
there is a great core crew here and having newbie’s join in only makes it better.. Possibly the BEST site on the net...
Fire away and keep us all (well me anyway) entertained. Some good posts have been written and heavy dissicussions have been made (yea you wisdom (lol) .. That’s what makes a good forum great, not the ****in' but the fun we can all share about the Awesome Eastern NY...

So , What makes a GREAT forum ?

    Good Post.

I used to only go to a flyfishing forum that jimmy was also on. Some interesting topics there, but a lot of elitist attitudes. This forum just guys who love to fish.

I haven't contributed much fish porn, because honestly on the other site it is a hastle to post pics.

I am a die hard trout fly guy who still loves to read about all the other fish species caught and tuna your making me a little jealous, but you should take up backin on his trip to the east branch. If you can get to the catskills during the week the fishin can't be beat. On the weekends the rivers get a little crowded, but thats why the dacks are great.

Great post RJ. I moved up here knowing nobody. It was great to have met some real cool people to go fishing with.

And as far as me not having time to fish much, it's not so much the shift work that holds me back. I've got a very young family, and the wife is anything but an outdoors person. Projects on the house are time consuming, but will eventually come to an  end. And the overtime so I can afford the mortgage payments take up alot of my energy.

I'm looking forward to fishing with past and future members for many years to come.

When hell freezes over, I'll fish there too.

Great post RJ... well as a newbe I can tell you what makes it great to me, Its the open friendliness you guys share.
I came north and left all my fishin n huntin buddies back south. it got to where it just wasnt as much fun alone and had no one to joke about the days fishin, brag to or share a great day with. here you can do that. the open and often humorouse posts here are great! not to mention the fish porn or the willingness to share tips and help with others. It has become the first thing I do when I get in from work or fishin just to see whats up. I have enjoyed it a lot and hope to get to fish with you guys soon. at the very least will be there at the party.
all I can say is Great job guys and wish I was a little further north,
....dam...sounds like all I need is a couple beers and be goin...."I..(hic) love you man..(hic) lol

that be an impressive size  mature brookie..  they say a char doesn't live as long as trout? i heard something like 4 to 6 yrs for char and hatchery brown/bows live  6 to 7 yrs .. native browns/bow can live 10 to 12 yrs  lakers live up to 20 yrs. ..?  i hope i catch a wall hanger (picture fish) in pepac or the nev. this summer, going to try getting out on both resi this weekend.

The thing I like about this site,

    1. Many times browsing other forums,I've seen new people post a pic and an introduction etc. and
half the time, you'll get "the regulars" swarming them, bashing on them, being generally ignorant and chasing people off. This site (the eastern new york section anyway) isn't like that. The regulars here are open, friendly, always willing to give good advice, and give a big thumbs up when you post pics.
    2. Like I said before, If it swims.... someone on here specializes on it, can catch it, and give you good advice on how you can catch it too.

We're all here for one reason...... we are hopelessly addicted to fishing, and this site is a great outlet for people with a lot of experience to share, and for new people to come and ask questions without having their heads ripped off.
We're lucky to live in an area where you can go in any direction and find something different to try.

P.S. more people should post their fish porn!!

    I agree with everyone here...

As JKBugger said, I used to only read n' post on a Catskill fly fishing site (I was living down there at the time).  It was helpful and fun, and even fished with a few guys on occassion...  But it never ceased to amaze me how a bunch of anonymous 'anglers' would get on the forum and pounce all over some poor guy for posting a photo of an awesome trout.  I can still hear some of those nimrods:

"There is NO WAY that fish is forteen inches!"

"I can't beleive you wold disgrace a trout (and trout fisherman) buy torturing that fish out of the water to take a photo!"

"I've caught one far bigger than that in the same spot!"

It got very old, very quickly...  So I bounced around and hit a few other forums and basked in the myriad of photos and awesome fish porn.  Granted, fishing is not about bragging, but a good photo is hard to beat, right fellas?

I think it was last Striper season when ReelForce got in touch and told me to check out this site.  I decided to see what it was all about, and within about one month I had several new freinds who enjoy their time on the water.  Some of them even like live music and road trips!  We've come a long way in a short time.

Fly fisherman, ice fisherman, worm dunkers and topwater fanatics...  For a group of ~15 guys, this forum sure has it's bases covered!  I just wish there were a few more good Canada Goose stories mixed in now and then.

(Sorry Dougie- it seemed funny in my head)

I can't really think of much that would make it better, although I do sometimes wish that people were forced to take a polygraph test prior to creating a username.  It might help keep some of these BoSox fans at bay.

(Sorry Ed- that seemed funny in my head too)

It's going to be a lot of fun to get ILikePike and Mr. Jigs into the fray this summer for some fun and some fishing!

You guys all kick serious****..  And I am happy as hell to know ya...

Ya'll sure do catch some fish!!!

I think it is the diversity of conditions and species that makes new york and particualrtly people in this forum very interesting.

Many people here fish ice to summer to ice again and that makes for some very interesting times.  And great people to share them with!
