Couple Channels and a First

was out for about 3 hours this evening....picked up 3 channels...all of them about average size...and my first turtle..no clue what kind of turtle it was. caught in the mon...on cutbait.... was maybe a hair smaller then a dinner serving platter. didnt think it was a snapper but maybe it was....all of the other turtle pics don't look anything like it. any clue?

They are soft shells, red ear, or snappers, you do not get box turtles in the water, they are land turtles!!!!!

Gizmos, thats a big one.....13-14" across the widest spot on its back I'd say. How wide do you think it was. All but one that I have caught have been between 6-8 inches at their widest. The one and only big one wouldn't fit in a five gallon bucket if I tried. And of course they were all put back.

They are really neat to see aren't they? With all the different types of fish in the rivers I'm surprised any survive considering the don't have a hard shell to tuck into. Just watch the toes.....them nails are SHARP.

    Nice picture.

Thats my buddy, not my fingers ! He showed us how far he could go and we stayed just out of range, although I warned him that snappers have much longer reach, just in case !

that would be me holding the turtle. i would be willing to take a bite for the experience. of course the thrill of the turtle was nothing compared to the boat ride in "ol' Leaky". most definitely my first turtle save playin in the creeks as a kid. felt like a log pullin it up, there was no struggle on the end of the line at all.
