okuma spinning reels

thoughts on these?  seem to be springing up everywhere.  i have always used shimanos (symetres and saharas).  wondered how these match up.

one more, how about the pflueger line of reels.

never paid much attention to either, but some of my reels are needing replaced.

My dad just got himself a new spinning setup and got an okuma (maybe an expiror? not sure). It seems like a decent quality, entry-to-mid level reel. Not sure how it'll hold up down the road, but it seems to be a good reel. Never heard anything bad about Pfluegers either, and either those or the Okumas should serve you well.

That said, when I was putting together my new bass spinning outfit...I still ponied up for a new Sahara. You just dont mess with a good thing.

i have several plueger reels and abuse them horribly, they still reliably catch large fish smoothly, no drag problems .On the other hand i owned an okuma that did not function well after repeatedly being exposed to rain.I fish swamps , sand beaches , and lakes. They get gritty.Maybe if its nopt abused it will work fine.Gander mountain guide series reels are sometimes made by pfluger ask someone there will know. You can get one from 35 - 100 bucks.(and they have a kick a** return policy)
