wilmore dam

Went to try my luck at wilmore today for the first time. Very nice looking lake. I was at the dam, very few guys out. No one did any good except 1 guy in a boat, he said he did very well at the shallow end of the lake & that there were more guys fishing there who were catching mostly small crappie. The 2 guys that I was fishing alongside were disappointed that we were not doing well as they usualy catch perch & crappie where we were. I guess the water is still too cold at the deep end. Very pretty trout stream below the dam also.Windy as hell again. I am sure that that didn't help.  sam

hey, stealys4me. those fish develop eggs long before you caught them. the fact that they have eggs has no direct relation to when they will be spawning, they carry those eggs for months...

TRIED again today with the same results.Everyone that I talked to said the same thing, shore bite was late this year,  but should pick up anytime. The lake was busy with boats, surprised me with this early in trout season.Very impressed with the beauty & Quietness of the lake. We left at 2pm didn't see or hear of anything caught by then. I think they were putting in another dock while we were there. The handicapped area was very nice also. Also was impressed with the curtesy of the boaters that, even though it is electric only, they came out of the launching area & passed us slowly. thanks    sam

sounds like you had a great day. I didn't realize that was a special reg. lake for panfish, but doesn't matter I only keep 6 or 8 over 10" anyways. I don't like to freeze them & with me & wifey that's enough for a nice meal. Those regs do definately make a difference in the quality & quanity of fish in a lake. You can really tell the diff. down here in the aver. size since they started at Twin Lakes. btw did you get any slabs?  sam

    Man,

I miss Wilmore Dam. I loved fishing the stream channel at the head of the lake during the early summer. The last time I was there was 20 years ago. I geuss that Bethlehem turned the lake over to the PA Fish Commision or the DNR. Did they do the same with the Que?

No gas motor at all on board they patrol it pretty hard been stoped many times but they only seem concerned about fishing lic, and flotation devices.

2 of us caught 116 crappies, 2 bluegills, and a 18 inch bass.  in 4 1/2 hours of fishing.  Only 9 legal crappies biggest being 10 1/2 inches.  Most of them being 8 1/2 to 8 3/4 inches.  Lots of crappies but not to many nice one.  That was the first time I have every fished the lake.  It was fun but I think I will stick to Raystown where I can catch alot of 12 to 15 inchers.  Hey stealys4me how is the bass fishing in Wilmore?
