Im relatively new to steelhead fly fishing, I fish nymphs and egg patterns but have yet to try steamers. What is the take like ? I have to think that it is a real hit as opposed to a subtle take of a nymph, am I correct ?

your correct, they take the streamer a little harder than a nymph but still you have to remember the colder it is the less the fish chase the food i found that if you can get a good drift and find the right depth you'll be good, that minnow worked real well the other day b/c there was 4 guys working a hole and the fish shut off so i threw the minnow on and sure enough pulled 4 out with it . A fire fox is a good one too
