Hey -- that helps.   I mostly use triangle taper lines on most of my rods.   They handle cold water very well.  If you're doing a lot of roll casting with it, probably want to cut about 18" off the front taper.  I would also suggest Scientific Anglers ultra 4.   Another good cold water line.   Stay away from cortland's lazer lines, SA mastery series lines.  They will crack in little time if you fish cold water alot.

Lots of guys like Rio lines.. specifically Rio nymph for steelheading.  I have their clouser line and love it, but I haven't fished it much in cold water.  I have their windcutter (Rio's triangle taper version) in a spey line.. seems to work great.

That said, an expensive fly line isn't necessary for PA steelheading.  But I'm not sure which cheaps ones will suit.   Maybe others can help.

Cortland replaced  my cracked lazer a couple times over the years, It does make sense taking small steps when it comes to using expensive lines especially on sticky water. I am going to try SA wff4-5 wts closeouts I picked up for 4 bucks a spool and will try them on the sticky SR in pulaski.

Which fly line? is getting to be a harder question to answer in these perilous times.

I went into a local shop last week thinking of a new #4 for the coming campaign. Top o' the line was something called Sharkskin for, no kidding!, $100!! My missus just somehow knows when something like that comes into the house, and it invariably costs me something additional in the end.

So I left with a $25 SA which I've used before with complete satisfaction and kept the remaining $75 in my pocket.

these cold water lines, will there be any trade off for use in the summer time? i do alot of fly fishing in the dead of winter and so far haven't had a problem with cracking yet. but if i do and buy a cold line ...

Airflo ridge nymph, SA ultra 4, used them both for indicator fishing, no cracking-hassle free, good lines around $50. If you do a lot of indicator fishing with say a fast action 91/2 or 10 ft consider up lining to an 8 wt line. Will give better turnover with short to medium casts on small/med sized PA streams.
