You got a pretty good shot of pike on Lonely; holds a huge population for its size. Give me a shout when you plan to try it. I'll point you in the right direction or maybe even meet up with you out there....tight Lines, cheers

i did pretty well up there last spring.i saw people around me pulling up some big fish but all i caught were mostly 2 footers (hammer handles). the lake is full of those, and even though they might be smaller, they are full of energy and completely freak out when you hook em'. lots of fun.
    this one was from september

and this one from a rainy day in may.

i'm shooting for sunday feb 22nd, hopefully everything will work out.
i know some good spots for open water but ice is a different story. any help and info would be appreciated, and if you're available that day we should meet up.

You could probably get one at Saratoga Bait & Tackle just across the 9P bridge off Exit 14 in the shopping center on your left after you cross the bridge over Saratoga Lake.  If not you could get one at Walmart off Exit 15N by turning right at the traffic light then get in the left hand lane and turn left into the Walmart Shopping Center and go to the Sports Department.
    New York State License Fees:
                        Resident                     Non-Resident
    Seniors (65+)      $5
    Annual               $19                             $40
    7 Day                $12                             $25
    1 Day                $15                             $15

    Good Luck,

Last year we were getting 6 thru 11 pounders. This year the biggest I've got is about 5. I know there are bigger (15 to 20 range) in there just haven't found them yet this year.

First time posting here, but I've been prowling the forum for awhile.  I noticed you've been talking about Lake Lonely and it's Pike, so I thought I'd share a quick photo. This is from Lonely from about 3 weeks ago.  It was the first of 4 that we pulled up.

We'll be trying our luck again there next Sunday 2/22.

    Happy Fishing All!

Whip-ups (or Tip-ups), Med. Shiners, #4 Black Octopus or Bait Holder Hooks (I release most of the time, less damage then trebles use trebles if you prefer) on a 2 foot 20# Mono Leader with 20# Braid on Whip-ups or 36# Tip-up line on Tip-ups (duh) as backing a foot or 2 off the bottom in anywheres from 4 to 15 feet of water. Sometimes I'll double rig with one right on the bottom and one 2 foot up or one at 2 up and the other 4 foot up. Now, would you like me to bait the hook and take the fish off for you? ...Lmao J/K Good Luck....Tight Lines....Cheers

    Here is a Whip-up....

I like that whip-up, is that your invention? I wonder if you can make battery motorized whip-ups to auto jig small lures ? I was thinking about making a device when I using two jig rods sitting between holes about two arm lenghts apart. I wanted to  see if one lure worked better than the other. Still can't be sure. I kinda concluded if the fish are there, they'll hit any panfish lure. But I like that system, watching the video it certaining has advantages. cool video clip ,cheers!

They were invented in the 70's on the great lakes for fishing trout that tend to drop the bait before you can set the hook with a normal tip-up. Whip-ups set the hook for you. If you want a jigging tip-up you could go with a Windlass Tip-Up that works with the wind or a Jig-Up Automatic tip-up that runs on batteries. Here are some links to them.

    Windlass Tip-Up about $14

    Jig-Up Automatic tip-up about $18

Wisdom, thanks for sharing, can I find those whip-ups? I like the idea of using ultralight jigging rods. I would certainly use my regular tipups for larger species and bigger water but, I do not use baitfish  when perch/panfishing.  I'd like to try at least a couple of those devices especially for perch/pan fishing. I didn't see them on fish usa shop.  you know where online? thank again!

Reel force, thank you for the link ,kinda up there $ wise but,I still will consider one.. Wisdom, are those you using homemade wooden whip-ups?  Wondering if It might be worth trying to build my own. I would like to see these devices up close.I suspect a stift/heavy/medium jigging rod and a top qualty reel with smooth drag such as my shimano 750 sedona is best suited for this gadgit. Let me see one up close if possible, I'dreally like to try building my own!
