Finding Deer Sheds
Well, I believe it's getting close to the find to find some sheds. I think it'd be cool to go in the woods, not worry about spooking deer, and look for some sheds. Take a walk if you will... Are there any tips for this? Any special way of finding these sheds? thanks in advance

Lots of patience for one.
Sheds are generally where the deer spend their most time -- this time of year, it's bedding areas.
Bucks like to bed high having a sorta 'lookout'. I'd suggest the sunny side of the area if possible.
Look under anything that could knock an antler off .. tight laurel bush, overhang, thick funnel, etc.. Even a log they have to jump can do it.
It's a bit early. I like to start in March. Probably a few laying around now though.

I found one last year and as Silver suggested it was on a knoll next to some bedding cover.
I usually start in March and scour the known bedding areas.

I heard of a trick for getting local sheds. First, you get some chicken wire and put it around the base of a tree so it is sticking out like a funnel towards the tree. Next, you put corn or feed at the base of the tree. Then, whenever the buck goes down to eat it and lifts his head up, the loose antlers will get caught in the mesh wire (just like the thick brush or bedding areas) and fall off right at that spot so you wont have to search as hard. I'm going to try it in the back yard soon for the first time to test it out and ill let you guys know of the results.

I also heard of people taking rebar and bending it into a U shape and pounding three or four into the ground in a circle and put the feed in the middle. I always say I was going to try it but never did.

Like silver said anywhere they have a good chance of hitting their antlers against something.
Another good thing is to look on the edges of food plots. Not really for the antlers, but more for the travel routes.
Find the travel routes to and from their bedding areas and follow them.
More than a million trees a year die to print environmentalist publications.

Another good place for sheds is under pine trees. Most beds this time of year are in pines, if available. Deer will stay there for days and possibly weeks. I remember a few years back going for walk like a week after a snow storm and jumping 5 doe. There were no tracks into the beds, only out.

If your planning on making a contraption over a bait pile to retrieve sheds, be very carefull not to make anything that is gonna harm the animal by getting stuck in it. Some bucks that arent ready to shed yet will get their head stuck and break there neck trying to get out. I wouldnt recommend using any chicken wire, or any wire, at all, sounds like animal cruelty waiting to happen. Your best bet would be to just put a bait pile in thick sapplings, brush, or under heavy pines. Or just go walk and look for them.

yeah, i've always checked near fences, and taking chicken wire, wrapperd in a big U shaped and put feed in the U, horns will hit the wire and possibly get caught and fall off.

I have never found one while looking. I have found a dozen or so while doing other activities. I have never really spent much time looking for them though.

i have a few comin into my feeder, we actually 7 differant bucks and here is what i observed, the 2 largest bucks have already dropped both antlers, prob 3 1/2 year olds by the size, 1 decent 2 1/2 year old shed one antler some time between thursday morning and today so hes a half rack, and 4 1 1/2 year old buck still have both antlers, so my question is do you think the size and age of the deer affect when they drop their antlers or is it how healthy they are.. just wondering.

my buddy from ohio found a half 9 point in a field by his house it went in to his quad tire the year before he found a nice 7 half rack
