Wading Jacket Recomendations

I am looking to buy my first wading jacket and would be very interested in any recommendations anyone may have.  I was hoping to get away with spending around $200-250.  I was looking at the Orvis Tailwaters XT jacket but it is no longer available.  Thanks in advance for any information - good or bad - you can provide.

although this is not the right spot for this post, I'll try and help. In my opinion wading jackets are a waste! all that money for something you might use a dozen times a year. I own  that orvis tail water jacket and believe me I've used it just a little over a dozen times. and Ive had it 5 years. personally a good rain jacket is all you need. Much cheaper, save the cash to upgrade your fishing gear. just my opinion

i would completely diagree with Jrb327
i have a wading jacket that is one of the best pieces of gear i ever bought

    i have a cloudveil 8x
i have used it everytime i have gone fishing in 60* or below weather

it is much better than a vest
the only 2 months i don't use it are probably July and August
    (unless it is raining)

Gore-Tex is the way to go, as it will breath

post this in fisherie, as it gets the most hits
also use the search, this has been covered a few times

If you can find a breathable wading jacket with a lot of pockets that is also water proof would be good.  You can use it as a vest and rain coat and eliminate the need to carry a rain coat.  I haven't found one yet.

The only thing better than 1 day of fishing is 2 days of fishing.

Seriously?  There are a bunch of them, they are just expensive.  Big front pockets, and goretex.  Simms, Sage, Patagonia, Cloudveil, Reddington all make nice jackets that are totally waterproof and made for carrying gear and have back pouches for lunch/water.

I'm looking for one with 14 to 16 pockets.   Have never seen one with that many.   The guy from Orleans Outdoors in New York says he has one but I haven't been up there in several years.  He does not sell on line.

Oh man that's a buttload of pockets, to be sure.

the jackets I've seen and the one I have the two main front pockets are much bigger than a typical vest pocket, So, if I want I can put 2 fly boxes in each.  My jacket has 8 pockets, including one inside.

I've got the green one from Hodgeman.  tons of pockets.  fairly waterproof and has a hood.  for a full day in the rain it doesnt hold up well.  and it's not too warm.  it packs up nicely though.

Thanks again for all the reply's.  We have a new LL Bean store near by and I checked out the Emerger and PacLite.  The Pac Lite is nice but no where near enough storage pockets - not even a pocket on the back of the jacket.

paclite looks like a backup rain jacket (simms invest) not a full blown wading jacket

pro-shell looks like a nice jacket (if you are looking at bean)

the emerger is not gore-tex and the pockets look kinda small

I bought a pacific fly wading jacket last year, and really like it thus far. I think it was around $180. Front pockets are huge.

My jacket is a pacific fly, I couldn't remember the name until you posted it.  It was a gift.  The fron pockets are huge.  It does pretty good in the rain, but an all day rain it gets wet.  I imagine any jacket gets wet throuout in a real soaker though.  It's also very comfortable.  And I like that I can use the back pocket without taking it off, unlike most vests.

I like a packable wading jacket, and I wear my pack over it...they won't keep you completely dry in a down pour but its nice to be able pack it in or take it off when the weather changes...just my opinion..Cabelas makes some decent ones for a good price

I have the right to remain silent.....I just don't have the ability

Spend the money and buy a Simms. Staying warm and dry is the key to fishing in the elements.
I recently bought simms waders and a wading jacket, i truely feel that i have been missing out for the past 20 odd years. I know it sucks spending the money but it also sucks missing work sick because your equipment failed...   Its a long term investment...
