Please be aware of the winter trout regulations on that section of water. Just a heads up.

Not sure of winter trout rules, have seen the "man" several times while fishing in the winter no issues.  It is an approved trout waters and is closed to fishing in March.

not sure of the reg's either, but i wouldn't fish below the first bridge there, just to be safe.  I know that's the highest they stock is right there at the bridge.  best bet, call PFBC in Meadville and ask.

Is there anyone on here that has ice fished the dam its self? I want to try it and was wondering if there are a good amount of walleyes in the dam.

I fished it a couple 2-3 years ago. Caught mostly gills and crappie. I accessed at the boat launch and walked towards the dam.

Fished the outflow on Monday afternoon. There is just always so many people down there, I hope they realize that they don't all have to fish the wall to catch fish. I caught 4 walleye, the biggest was just 12". Light bite and lot's of litter in the creek. I did manage to hook a old boot with bait containers stuffed in it.I didn't understand it either. People, there is a garbage can right next to the wall ! Anyway, creek has a slow flow to it right now, I assume do they don't fluctuate the lake level too much for the ice nuts. Most of my luck has come further down the creek past the foot bridge. The last week or so I have only seen people bring up dinks. Saw one guy catch a small pellethead which surprised me being that close to the dam. Caught a coupe nice eyes there a couple months ago (21" & 24") but returned them to the creek unharmed. With the pressure that place get's and everyone taking 15-18" eyes home, catch and release is the only way I see to get it back to a decent fishery (MHO). It's a shame, I used to be able to go down there and get some nice fish but now they are so far and few between. I'll wait a month or so before I hit it again or wait until they up the legal size to 22" (just kidding).

man, what a rebel.  while there is nothing wrong with keeping, a lot of anglers don't have that kind of foresight.  kudos

Trust me, I take home my fair share of fish. Nothing better than fresh fish ! I spend a lot of time on Woodcock and the outflow and consider it my home water. Like everywhere else, the good fishing comes in cycles. 12" fish today could equal 25" fish in a few years. If I didn't fish there 2-3 times a week I would probably not have an issue with myself keeping any fish, but I am more interested in being part of preserving my home waters. With the economy going down and job's going away, we will just have to all get used to seeing people carrying away stringers of fish. You got to eat somehow ! As far as the lake goes, PFBC does a great job in restocking fingerlings that have a pretty good chance of survival. Man is there going to be some hogs in a few years especially since it can be a little bit of a tougher place to fish at times. However, the outflow does not get stocked with walleye or musky so what's in there is all that there is. It can be looked at both ways. Why would they stock Musky or walleye in a stream that regularly gets stocked with pelletheads ? I assume that the walleye in the outflow have come originally from the main lake ????? Of course it might be best that the walleye population in the outflow is more of a "take" fishery. However it's looked at, I just enjoy catching fish - even if they are only dinks ! Does anyone know if walleye (specifically) have any impact on the pellethead population as far as part of their food chain, or do the walleye in the outflow rely on other bait fish for food ??????  I have caught hundreds of 8-12" walleye all through Woodcock creek (more downstream) in the past years and wonder why I never see any better size fish in the stream ? Would have thought I would at least see the size of them improving from year to year. Must just not be that good of an environment for them ?????

    PFBC in Meadville

I would guess that alot of the newly stocked eyes from the lake travel through the dam. People keep about every eye they catch of legal size so not many make it to be good size but there's still always an influx of small lake eyes coming through. I know that's how it works at my local spillways.
