Carolina Beach/ cape fear river fishing

heading down to carolina beach in mid August for a week and i planning on doing alot of fishing.  i have surf fish the outerbanks befor.   im not sure what i should take with me to fish the river. im taking the fly rod and the surf rods. might book a guide to fish   the flats of  the river has one ever book a guy down there..   any help would be great

My parents used to have a condo right by the CB pier at the north end.  Fished there a bunch of times - really nice spot.  Never tried myself, but was always told the best surf fishing was by the inlet at the far north end of the island, where everyone drives on the beach.  Also heard they do well down towards Ft. Fisher - people fish off the rocks down there.  Still had this bookmarked from when we used to go down:

We went to corolla last year. Go into mullet, spot, and mackeral from the surf.
The pay fishing peirs were hit and miss.
Used the fish the Oregon Inlet with the tides and did real well there with my dad.
You can drive the suv with 4-wheel drive right up to the end- park- and fish from the back of the truck.
That's what I love about the beach.
