Oh the things we do when we're confined to the cabin!

Just passing the time and waiting for the next available opportunity....tying some jigs and sacks in the warmth today...until next time.

Man, don't these look yummy!?

Heres my buddy Joe with a nice male from last Thursday...12lbs on the Boga....Nice one Joe!

Just curious but ...what kind of jacket is he wearing, looks toasty.

A warm one!  As a matter of fact, I asked him the same thing that day...he said he got it from Cabela's and that its 100% wool.  All I can tell you.

My house smells like a fish right now Dave....I love it!

i am courious... (since we fish differntly)

how big are the sacks you tie?  quarter-size? dime?
where do you get eggs? steelbows? browns?

I think it is funny that fly guys think you need to throw 14s and 16s
but sacks are much larger (i think) and consistantly catch fish...

I haven't had any luck on the pink sacs this year but the white ones have been killer. caught a few on chart, and blue as well. I usually tie mine with 6 eggs get mine from Poor richards, but I did get a female last weekend that actually was carrying eggs not skein so I will prob try those out hopefully right after Christmas if the weather cooperates. You guys do any good on Sunday Paul? we left to go home and catch the game didn't feel like fighting the slush again. Ended up with a couple Sat afternoon after we saw you go up. Hopefully be back up Friday AM.

With the King eggs, I generally like to put 5 eggs in a sack, sometimes 6.  The brown trout eggs are roughly measured with a 1/4 ts spoon.  The size I like is dime to nickle...nothing bigger is really necessary IMO.  White and Pink are pretty much all I tie anymore.  This year, white has outproduced the pink overall for me, but pink is real close.  Its funny, but there are certain spots that I think white works better and vise versa...it may all just be in my head, but its true for me.  Could be the whole confidence thing and what I start with and where.  I actually got some blue netting this last time to try blue for a significant change in color....we all know that change of some kind usually triggers hits.

I was doing well Sunday (6 fish) until my Frontier rod busted right in half on a fish!  That ended my day and man, I was bummed...Loomis Canada immediately responded to my e-mail and requested I send them the rod...Its already in the mail!  Hopefully I get something back by season's end.

I like nickel sized, even in clear water. I know guys tie some smaller for clear, but I think the larger sacks actually work better in the clear water. The smaller you go, the more it looks like netting and knots, and the less like eggs.

I think yarn egg patterns work better in smaller size 14 to 20 because you are trying to fool the fish into thinking that yarn ball is real. The bigger it is, the easier it is for them to tell what's up.  But that's just what I think. I have caught fish on some giant egg patterns, even in clear water, but the smaller yarn balls seem to work better. I don't fish yarn balls much though, only when I get bored or run out of the real stuff.

Allot probably does have to do with what you have confidence in, if you gave me egg sacs tied out of the burnt orange or red netting, I'd toss them right into the trash, but I'm sure they are the go to bait for someone.

elephanthead:  Just after I saw you and your buddy Sunday, I went up stream a bit and got this 12 lb. hen on a pink sack.  Fished it for about an hour and landed 6....couldn't PM you since your box is telling me you don't accept.

genieman77:  The new rod handled her great....put it to the test this past weekend and it passed with flying colors....just wanted to thank you again!

    12lbs on the Boga.

Anyway, not working too good since it snapped in half!  I sent it back to Loomis Canada.  We'll see what they do.
