Lost my spot after 14 years

Found out today I am no longer able to hunt my area I have hunted for 14 years. All my years of blood and sweat(planting apple trees, mowing trails, lime in the spring, etc...) GONE! It will be developed just like the other side of the road was last year. Am I crushed you bet! BUT I killed like 22 deer on this property, had MANY MANY good memories of hunting there. Now I must move on and start knocking on doors. I could just sit and complain but thats not me. Maybe I will find a better spot, worst case I hunt a game lands 10 minutes from my door. But unless you try you will never know!! Now I begin my hunt for a place to hunt next year(mainly bow). Life is what you make of it!  Anybody else feel my pain and hope??

Sucks period....Good luck on the search, maybe that will be the fun of it, sometimes it gets boring when you can hunt the same stands each year without doing all the additional scouting.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

Look on the bright side, lucky you didn't lose it just before the season.  You got all year to adjust now.   Good luck.

Still though, it has happened at a good time of year, if there ever was one.  Winter hasn't even started yet, at least according to the calendar.

Hopefully you can find a new core area soon and get out there after some snow falls.  Good luck.

I always try to locate 1-2 new places each year because on average that is what I lose due to drilling, leasing, development, etc.

I had about 5 spots to check out. The first(posted land next door) spot is a no, they only want family on the land. Really can't blame them. Might gain access to a 50 acre plot of woods. Guy who owns it has no one to hunt with and lives in a house of 5 females!(wife, 4 daughters) He kills a buck almost every year. So far so good. What is so frustrating is that I lived in Erie for 22 years. Up there I have plenty of spots to hunt(public and private), but I live almost 4 hours away. I don't want to buy or lease land here because I will be retired(federal law enforcement, wife has a great job) in about 10 years at the ripe old age of 47. When I do retire I will be in Erie more than half of the year hunting and fishing. I hate to invest time and money in land that I only need to use for about 9 years. I love hunting in Ohio but thats even further away than Erie. Wish I DIDN"T love bow hunting so much!!!

Just think about how many hunting spot this 56 year old guy lost,I lost so many bunny spots,to housing plans(that I doubt if I ever get new dogs),and deer spots for this and that it sicken me.But your love of the hunt will lead you to more spots, although never as good as the old,you will still have a place to do it,Although I've never lease land to hunt, but have given away gift cards for W mart,G.E. and every eatery there is,it a small way to show the land owner how much you care, good luck

Thanks Tuna, If you ever want to bunny hunt without dogs let me know. I have a bunch of spots, but no one to hunt with. Guys these days are VERY lazy! I have asked at least 20 guys to hunt, and they all say no way without a dog. Good thing I was always the dog when I started hunting, I know of no other way to hunt rabbits.
