yough trout

im heading out to somerset county this saturday for a day trip. We always go to the casselman first thing but as that dies down we usually hit some trout which is usually laurel hill in confluence. This year i want to try fishing the yough river near confluence but i dont know how to trout fish in such a big water so can anyone give me some tips on how to fish the water? Also does anyone know if it is good smallie fishing near confluence in the yough.

If anyone knows anything about linn run or enos run wild trout let me know

Before you step into the river just stop and take note the areas of importance. Big water can be intimidating, but you just have to break it down into small sections that are potential feeding/lying spots...seams, deep runs, current breaks...etc. Fish each spot thorough, but still try to cover as much water as possible...before you know it you will learn each section of the river that produces fish.

River right (Somerset side) just below the outflow is a deep run for starters and go from there.

Honestly, both will work for both.  Rooster tails, hus lures, cleos, it doesnt seem to matter right now.

I use to fish Confluence all the time before I moved to the central part of the state.  This time of year I always fished about a half mile past the confluence of the two rivers and did really well on night crawlers.  I'll be back soon though to hit some of my hot spots.

Just look for dark water.  Right under the bridge is a nice hole.  Down river from there is pilars in the water.  It is nice trough there also.  On Sat there will be people in the river.  take a minute and look where they are at.  Good luck.

You can find some good smallmouth fishing in the Cassellman right where it enters the Yough as well.
