Van Emmans Ponds

Has anybody ever fished Van Emmans Ponds? I've been thinking about checkin it out for about a year now and havent gone yet. I think in the next week or two I will try and fish some of it. I was just curious if anybody fishes there and what is in there. If anybody has fished it please post a reply or email me privately. When I finally get out there I'll let you guys know how it works out. Thanks.

Wow! I find it really hard to believe nobody has ever fished Van Emmans ponds but based on the lack of response maybe thats the case? I dont necessarily think it would be good or bad but I was just curious if anyone ever fished it or knows of somebody who has. I realize alot of the area around it is swampy but I wouldnt really think that would discourage or stop serious anglers. Never stops me. If anybody knows anything good or bad about it please reply. If it really hasnt been fished all the better, makes it even more intriguing to me. Thanks.

Sorry Guys. It's about 1000ft NW of the mouth of Little Chartiers going into Chartiers Creek. The ponds are on the west side of Chartiers creek. Its accessible off of Hahn Rd.. One way to get on Hahn Rd. is by turning up into the old Consolidated coal Montour 4. Go straight past the prep plant, once across the rail road tracks make a right staying on Hahn Rd. continue about 1200 ft and its on your right. The old Montour 4 is off of West McMurray Rd. Dont know if that explains it or not. Here are the coordinates: Lat. 40°16'53.69" N, Lon. 80° 8'31.93"W. I do believe its on most maps/satellite photos online (google etc.). Sorry I didnt specify where exactly it was initialy. I guess I just thought people would know. I shouldnt have assumed such. It is kinda outa the way. Alright so if anybody knows anything about it please reply. Thanks.

never fished it, checked it out on the sat photos and it might have some potential but i do not know for sure. all i know is i followed chartiers creek the whole way from near town to that point and there is a TON of ponds along that thing. i have a new pond fascination now that the meat eaters are out and about in the well known areas for bass.

good luck if you do hit it, ponds can be very rewarding.

Yeah I know what you mean. Its amazing the number of places "off the beaten path" that can be practically next door. Opens up a whole new world of possibillities. Good luck and tight lines!

Dr. Fotios, I parked along the road and walked down to do some birding, it is Posted everywhere to not tresspass as you know, The water level was low a month ago. Although I think the best way would be to walk up Charties Creek and cross the tracks and go in that way.

Thanks for the info on the no trespassing signs. I havent been by (in a car) in almost a year. Dont recall seeing signs. I havent actually been down to the ponds on foot in something like 15 or more years. Definately didnt see signs then but thats been awhile. Going across the tracks was my thought as well. When your where there birding did you see signs on that end? It does seem like it would have good bass potential and who knows what else. Maybe Ill drive by tonight and see where the signs are. Anybody know whos property it is? It may be Consols property? Thanks for the info.

i grew up in the lower end of Stafford Manor. So your talking about my old back yard (litteraly)

I never fished those ponds... always some strange and changing colors

I pulled a 21' largemoth out of little chartiers last summer, and have also caught some other large carp, bass, and cats. and have see a few muskie...there are also some good size trout that find there way down to the un-natural cold water release.

There is a console # before the bridge, it is a 412# I was going to call it and see if Birding would get permission, I observed a Beaver and Wanted to just scope the area out, if your going to walk the tracks and stream let me know. If I go I will let you know also.

Yeah i can totally see why that would be a good birding area. Nice bass. I got one about that size up in the lake (canonsburg) last summer. Heres the crazy part. Caught him at about 3am and I caught him on a piece of french fry cause I had taken the rest of my rods and bait back to the car. I just wanted to make one last cast before I left. I was really fishin for cats. Quite a suprise Ill tell you. Thought it was a carp at first. The musky you saw were they in little chartiers or around the mouth?

Actually I was looking for Turtles species that were in the area, found a few turtle eggs dug up along the bank.
It is probally a 10 minute walk from hahn, parking is a concern though - not sure where to do that

I recall something about there being alot of room on the side of the track. I dont remember clearly its been years. I have to check the Sat. photos again and see where hahn Rd. intersects. I know Hahn is not too wide and not really any birm. From Hahn to the ponnd is mostly a very steep embankment.

I was wondering if we could meet at the soccer field entrance on W. McMurray or park at the lot by the dam,  then walk down to Chartiers and access that way???

be careful parking at the soccer fields...
once the games are over they lock the fence, sometimes with cars inside
    OR
if you get there early and are blocking when people are trying to get to the fields they will tow
