Shore Fishing Erie

I would like to make a trip to Erie from Pittsburgh this week either MOnday, Tuesday or Friday, and I would like to know where is a good place to shore fish anywhere from elk creek to 20 mile for Smallies, Perch, Walleye whatever. I have been u[ there a lot forthe steelies, but never for spring fishing. Any information on location, baits, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Justin

Go up to Lampe and fish the wall or you could drive all the way around Presque Isle and fish the other side by the Coast Guard station.

Stop at Little Richards for advise, lures, baits, etc.

Talked to my brother and he was slammin the bass at p.i. using dead erie shiners off the wall. He also caught some nice jumbo perch. He was using an ultra lite outfit and a long handle net to lift the fish up. He had regular chubs but nothing wanted them. I experienced the same thing. Get shiners and have fun.

That sounds good.. i will probablly try in or around the bay.. do i need a long handled net though bc i don't have one? anywhere that doesn't need one? Is 20 mile or 12 mile good for smallies this time of year?

    Justin,

The walls he is referring to is the North and South Piers.  You need a net about 8 ft long to touch the water.  It's pretty easy to make an extension out of an old broom handle.

Wading anywhere along the penninsula side will produce bass also.w_w.

If it has fins and gills, I'm there.

Where is the wall located at?

Its where the channel comes from the lake into the bay.  Some people camp on the south side and fish.

took the family up to erie on saturday saw some really nice smallmouths caught off the north pier in the channel and at the very end left of the light house; bait seemed to be worms and minnies.
I fished for about an hour and 1/2  about 100 feet or so either side of the ferry launch in the bay. caught 5 largemouths 2 were 15-17 inches and two rock bass all but one on mister twisters the other on a heddon spook.
Be careful walking lots of poison ivy . water was nice I had shorts and old sneakers on. just a beautiful day!

I've seen people drop small 4 foot nets off the wall to catch minnies for bait.  Good to hear you did well.
