I've been catching some nice walleyes down the allegheny river and eating them.the other day i caught 2 nice channel cats both over 20 inches. So i kept both of them, I skined them just like i would a steelhead. MAN WERE THEY GOOD EATEN.  Flatfish

Catfish are great to eat. They make wonderful sandwiches. Take a small fillet and dip it in egg wash then some seasoned corn meal and deep fry. Great southern fish fry. If you get a really big one make sure to trim out all the lateral line red meat before you attempt to cook and eat any of it. Also remove and discard the lower belly and the fat right along the top of the fish near the dorsel fin. These areas cause the fish to be strong tasting plus it's healthier for you.

is it safe to eat cats from the river? ive never kept a bottom feeder(cat or carp) that i caught but ive been getting alot of nice cats and carp from the allegheny but im scared to eat one. by the way, fished all night one night down there with 2 buddies, 12 cats 17-23" 1 carp and 2 24+" gar. using creek chubs, corn & liver
