Steelie Fishing 101 with Moderator Mike!! lol

I had a chance yesterday to meet with Moderator Mike and he gave me his first Steelie lesson 101.  Had a great time but he did manage to get me skunked.... lol... conditions just weren't favorable.  Thank Mike and see ya around soon.  Just as long as we both fix the holes in our waders.

Also, this was brought up yesterday.  We had a definite first for the both of us on the stream and it brings up a questions, what's the weirdest thing to happen while you on the creek?

Oh boy Carcus ! ......I know a good one. It involves two guys and trout fishing in a small creek. We decided one cold night in October to try our hand at nighttime trout fishing (Carcus and I). So, we got some bait, rigged up and took off down to the creek. Here's where it turns hillbilly. Me, being pretty boozed up, decided that I wanted to try some lazy mans fishing. I really just wanted to sit on my rear and cast out. The creek was very low and there was a part of it that went from about 1 foot and dropped off to 3-4 foot. After pondering how I was going to make this all work, I figured that the best answer would come after a quick beer. We ended up taking 2 folding lawn chairs and sitting them right in the middle of the creek. Now to make this even better....... We came equipped with a cooler of beer, 3 dozen hot wings and some fries. We took the cooler and filled it up with water to keep it from floating downstream (it also made a great table). We then proceeded to sit right in the middle of the creek at midnight and cast out. We had a waterproof lantern that floated beside us and proceeded to eat wings and drink. I think I drank most of the beer, so some details are a bit fuzzy, but I remember catching about a 2" catfish. I so wish I had a picture of that night......I'm sure the game warden does too.

It was good meeting you, too!!!

Yes, I'll admit, I got a big mouth full of SKUNK!! lol

Here's what happen that was pretty cool.....

We were crossing the creek and one of the BIGGEST fox squirrels I have ever seen was caught in the current. It managed to get to the shale bank right where Carcus1211 was crossing.

It was so worn out from swimming it could barely make it up the bank. I actually felt bad for the poor critter! We left and when we returned to that spot it was gone. Whether it made it to safety or got swept back in, who knows!

BTW, Carcus, my phone is SHOT!

Funny you should mention the fox squirrel, I saw two of the biggest I've ever seen within a few hundred yards of the legion parking lot.  I thought the first one was a small groundhog till I saw the tail!  The second one was risking it all to get a few acorns or something off some branches hanging about 50' over the water.  Maybe the same one???

    Chartist,

It depends on what you view as fishable!
To me, yes, it will be very fishable!

But to some, if they can't see fish, it's not fishable! Would I go, even if I had to drive a little ways to get here??  ABSOLUTLEY!

Hey, this is kind of off topic, but the whole story about sitting in lawn chairs and drinking beer in the creek brought this to mind.   Drinking is prohibited on state game lands and when you are standing in the water, correct?
My question is, is it legal to drink on the banks of the streams in erie, or no, because some are managed by the state?
