Invest into a good rig from the get go.  U will avoid regretting not getting the best you could afford from the start.  Rod lengths from 11.5 to 13 are the norm for erie, some guys use longer 15 also.  A  8 to 10lb mainline is also the norm.  Most guys like siglon in the f series and ff, its good line.  Also the other lines are cortland, ande and raven, all quality lines, never used raven but read good things.  Ande and cortland are my top 2 choices now.  Reels you can invest some big money into.  Alot of guys like raven and islanders.  I don't think you can go wrong with them.  Okumas aren't bad reels for the money.  Once you get the rig together take it out and practice casting, you will avoid trying to learn while investing a day on the streams.  Popular floats are blackbirds, drennans and sheffields and ravens.  3 to 4g floats are the norm for general water conditions.  When the waters higher 5 to 9g are more useful.  You will enjoy it guaranteed so invest as much as you can into your first rig, it will save you in the long run.

yup. For me if I was only banking it and had one rod it would be the 15'. More line control and longer casts. A good assortment of floats from the start and accessories is a must; for, there is nothing worse than getting set up on the bank and not having something. As far as the reels go on anything over 13' I only use the Islander steelheader. I like the weight and it helps counter balance that long piece of graphite. 13' and 11'3 are rigged with the Raven SST3 Vectra. The vectra in sst2 or 3 is the easiest to learn on because of the adjustable tension knob. Rods, a good piece of graphite well wrapped and balance goes a long way. I like the IM-9 from Raven and have all 4 rods from G-Loomis. I like the feel of the Loomis best with the longer handles but the cost to feel ratio make the Raven all that more likable. Hope this helps. You can always call or PM if needed.
