Musky,  my point was more that a 40 yard shot is a long shot for most guys (more than anything else).  Taking a shot at 40 yards, you should be able to see your arrow's path.  40 yards is risky and if it isn't a slam dunk shot, then it probably should not be attempted.  Sorry sugarfuzz, but you have the attitude of "oh well... I'll just go shoot another one".  That reflects a degree of immaturity and irresponsibility in my eyes.  You certainly don't seem to have learned anything from all of this.  Now you have an animal that is wounded and suffering out there or one that died a long slow painful death, because you did not act responsibly enough to insure a clean quick kill.  This happens and is a hazard of archery, I understand that.  The difference is that when most people do something like this, they reflect on what happened and vow to never make that mistake again. I can't say that I get this feeling from reading your posts.  Again, Good Luck and Shoot Straight, Griffon.

Guys you can bs all you want but unless you shoot every deer at least 40 minutes prior to quitting time, use luminocks and your deer never stand in the shadow of the woods you do not see every arrow hit.

My buck this year was the 18th I have shot with a bow in pa and my 30th with a bow overall counting all states.  I have 20/15 vision and if you shoot within 40 minutes of shooting hours and claim you see every arrow hit, then you are a liar.   Not that I don't have a good Idea where it was, but some are flat out tough for anyone to see.  That's why I went to luminocks and this year the new ones with the magnet on the riser, great stuff.

If you can see your pin, the animal, you can see a white arrow flying through the woods.  Something tells me you never tried it, or you'd know that.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

musky so ur suppose to be mature? one your on the internet not knowing what happened you wern't there and yes i would take a 40 yard shot at a deer again standing still in wide opening with no trees around because i practice up to 50 and yes i hit the target that far too and in a field i probly would shoot at one that far its just like a gun if you practice 200 yards your gonna be confident u can hit at that far **** happens deer can move duck arrows it happens at 20 so if what u are saying is what you practice you probally shouldn't hunt at all cuz the same stuff happens with guns too you act like you have never missed or hit an animal and couldn't find it you are one of 2 things. a liar or u don't hunt    and for everyone who says you watch your arrows and how that wouldsome how make a difference i bet you see ur bullet in flight and hit the deer

40 yards is too long a shot to take across a field let alone through the woods.

I think he'll survive the hit. As for seeing the hit I have seen the arrow hit all of the deer I have shot. But my longest is 25 yrds. Most are at 15yrds. I use a flo. yellow nock white wraps and white& flo. yellow vanes. The bloody arrow is from a antlerlessdeer I shot last week.

Sugarfuzz, not sure why you are mad at me, I was defending you saying that an archer is never going to see all his arrows hit.

SK, I have shot a buck in PA every year for the last 18 years and 21 total (in PA) the last 14 of those have been with a bow and 2 previous to that.  When it comes to seeing an arrow hit, sometimes you are not going to.  If it hasn't happened to you yet, it will.  Prior to luminocks I was shooting white with 2 white and 1 orange fletch.  You will see eventually.  Especially with the new shooting hours, it is just too dark in some situations.

I never said I haven't had some that I didn't find (but it has been few), and I never claimed to know it all, but I am smart enough to talk to some of the best people.

Ask Chuck Adams if he has seen every arrow he ever shot hit the animal.  I did once actually, and the answer is no.  He is probably a pretty good resource.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

not trying to start a war here boys but i shoot comp archery and am lucky enough to shoot for pse bows. with that being said i happen to know sugarfuzz very well and he practices with me up to 60 yards. when your arrows are slapping and your blowing nocks of from that distance that says something about being a shooter.
griffon i hope u never plan on going mule deer hunting out west since your average shots are 40 to 60. and im guessing most of your guys pins are 20 30 40 so if u have a gun and the buck of a lifetime is 170 and your gun is sighted in at 120 your not going to take the shot right
