Trico Nymphs

I fished the Trico hatch about 10 times this year.

When the surface action died down one day at around 11AM,
I decided to  fish nymphs for a few hours.

I could see the fish steadily feeding on something just off the bottom.
I tried evrything in my arsenal from zebra midge,to copper johns, hares ear, bead head black caddis.NADA!!!!

My guess is that they were feeding on drowned tricos.
Does anyone have any patterns they could share or suggestions.
Thaks
Tom

I've gone as far as nymphing with trico spinners, otherwise, a tiny pheasant tail tied on a short nymph hook seems to work well when I see them feeding below the surface.

If I remember correctly, tricos hatch sundown till sunup.
You might be right in that the fish may be taking submerged adults.
The standard pattern for that is a normal dry spinner with 3 strands of crystal flash substituted for the wing.

    Bill Dance taught me that.

Just kidding J. I started nymphing with a trico spinner after seeing it work for you. For whatever reason, i've only had luck with that techinque on Spring Creek.
