Opening day success!!

Scored on my best buck ever tonight.  Nice 3.5 y/o 9 point with very good mass and heavy body that I have been keeping tabs on all summer.  Posted a trail camera picture of him here in August.

Hunted Washington county with my trusty Browning compound in the morning.  Saw a small spike and three does.  Returned to Allegheny County for my evening stand carrying my new Parker Cyclone crossbow.

Had 6 does feeding around me at 5:00 then saw two deer approaching, him and a smaller 8 point.  Lost my marbles waiting the 15 minutes for him to present a shot, all the while the does were starting to realize all was not right.

He approached all the way to 10 yards behind a deadfall and finally stepped clear for a 5 yard shot.  The Wasp broadhead did it's job and I after 150 yards of slow tracking I put my tag on a great buck for me.  Couldn't be happier since I have been keeping tabs on him for a long time.

On the wall he will go.

Jeremy, I probably still will be in the woods that test week so keep me in the loop.

Here he is, enjoy.

I know, crossbows can be a sore subject.  Crossbows have been legal in the SRA for 5 years now.  I have always hunted with a compound and still do but I am always looking for a new toy.

Not a convert, still will use my compound too.

    Ok, will do, congratulations.

I myself had two doe's show up last night. Never made it out in the morning. The one smelled something she didnt like, i suspect it was the kids on the powerline above me. Between them and the barking dogs the deer we're gone after 5pm and i never saw another thing. Definately wasnt me nor did i get picked off. Buddy had me in a stand of his that just lets you melt right into the terrain.
