I would say stay away from the Mill.

I'd second that. The project area is a good choice. Catch and release fly fishing only.  Easy to access and wade.  A wading staff is a good idea--SRC is aptly named.  Also, check the USGS web site for real time water level and flow. It gets muddied up quickly after a rain.

that is one beautiful stream.  we caught a decent amount on wooly buggers and mini foo's.  We only fished near the mill though, fist time ever going.  I will venture further next time.  How do u get to the project area, just drive past the mill and keep going?  Sorry, not familiar with the area.  Help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Best bet to get to Heinz Camp Road is to go south on 19 from Mcconnel's Mill and go to Portersville.  Take 488 towards Ellwood City for about 3-4 miles.  Turn Right onto Heinz Camp Road and take that all the way down to the bottom of the hill.  Parking area is just off to the right.  When you park, fish below the bridge, downstream for I believe .5 miles.  Short project waters, wish they'd make it longer.
